An issue came up during a battle last night and I'm hoping someone can help.
When a Bio Acid spore mine detonates against a monoliths living metal body, how many dice are rolled to determine whether it penetrates?
The tyranid codex (p. 45) says 2, while the necron codex (p 21) says 1, "no matter what."
It's just like it says in the Necron codex: only one penetration die per hit.
The spore mine doesn't have a rule adding an extra die to a normal armor-penetration roll. Rather, it has a special rule for armor penetration. That is, you don't roll the regular die and an extra die and then add them to strength as though it were attacking in close combat; you instead do 2d6+3, and there is no bonus penetration die. Thus, I would say to use 2d6+3 against a monolith, but, of course, I doubt many necron players will see it that way.
thank you and good night
I reread the armor penetration section and the conclusion is that you only roll 1d6 for acid spore mines and melta bombs, etc.. Neither of them say its bonus penetration but in the armor penetration section it specifically says all weapons roll 1d6 + strength and thus if you're rolling 2d6 you're adding something to the standard roll
On another note, do we really need a new monolith topic every week? When dealing with a monolith here is a very simple way to remember what does what
Everything rolls 1d6 (Except vindicare assassin, who uses him anyway?) and adds strength (Modified strength works fine) for armor penetration
The Av of a monolith is always 14
I can't think of anything that violates those two rules
I don’t play Crons myself but if i remember it has a bit in there about only using unmodified str
This has been discussed to death. . . I haven't read those discussions, but I suppose that any further exploration into this matter has already been made and is in those threads.Originally Posted by Deep_inferno
