In my oppinion I would say yes, you may divide your attacks to different models, or specific models if these are present.
Ofcourse the model being attacked would have to be within your killzone.
Example of of something I played on Sunday.
My deamon prince is in close combat, a monstrous creature, has two guardsmen on one side and a commisar on the other side.
I was then allowed to alocate my attcks to differnt models, so I put 3 attacks on the commisar and two on the guardsmen.
I would say you can alocate attacks to specific "special" models in close combat, but in my example here I coulden't alocate specific attacks to the different guardsmen.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

A carnifex is mentioned as an example for a monstrous creature in the TAR. According to the TAR, these may allocate their attacks against UNITS, not against specific models (unless the target is a one-man-unit).

This is also LITERALLY mentioned in the articles for all armies which describe what major changes the TAR mean for these. Andy Chambers himself said that TMCs now need the support of gaunt hordes, in order to keep squad characters with p-fists away from them.

Archon - I thought the TAR was not gospel yet? Didn't we talk about this in another thread and you told me that it wasn't yet offical? =)

TAR are listed as optional and require all parties consent to use in a game. Many tournaments advise they will be using the TAR, but they are not "official" per se. Most people are accepting them as officially optional, but there is nothing that requires their use. Right at the beginning of Chapter Approved is says "...require consent..." and there is nothing otherwise published.

Archon is right about the monstrous creatures.
New rules always override any older rules in a codex.
The codex is one of the old ones as well. (not one of the new thicker ones)
so it didn't account for the new assault rules.

and i was wondering which version of the tar does everyone use.
The ones in white dwarf or the other version on the Gw website

i personally use the T.A.R in the white dwarf and about the new rules overriding old codex rules does that apply to TRIAL rules as well?

TAR published in the Chapter Approved is different than the versions in the WD or online. The are a few, but significant, changes. The only official version is the one in CA. Anything else is official as any other house rule. Tourneys all use the CA version.

As far as overiding the codex, if you use TAR then they override any applicable codex rule. Otherwise the codex (updated by the on line FAQs) is the rule.
