I realize that is my "advanced age" that is causing my confusion but I do have a question about the subject.
Must you first upgrade the Sergeant in the Tactical Squad with Terminator Honours before you purchase Terminator Armour for him? It states on Page 25 of the Codex that "the wearer automatically has Terminator Honours at no extra points cost."
Thanks for the replies!
Nope, thats the point of it.Originally Posted by WolfLord1954

Ummm...thanks for the reply...I have no idea what you were replying to though, as my question was:Originally Posted by tarzen

nope. you don't have to pay the points to upgrade, then more points to get the armour.
One, or the other.
Sorry tarzen, but you are wrong.
In order to have the option to purchase Terminator Armour for a sergeant, you need the trait and the sergeant also needs to have access to the armoury. That means he has to be a veteran sergeant, so you have to pay to upgrade the sergeant (points cost in the relevant squad entry) and then pay further points to get the Terminator Armour (in the trait description). Oh, and because you can't use Bolt Pistols, Bolters or CCW with terminator Armour you have to then buy weapons which are usable, the cheapest combination being a Power Weapon and a Storm Bolter. This totals at least 60 points for the one (single wound) model.
You can see why people only take the trait for fluff adherance, don't you?

That's what I figured too. And, like you had pointed out, other than "fluff" adherence, there is no reason to pay so much for a "Veteran" Sergeant just to upgrade him with Terminator Armour and the weapons...Originally Posted by Corianis
I guess that the only good reason for that trait (Scions of Mars) is if you plan to use a lot of vehicles in the army...any other thoughts as to the benefit of the trait?
corianis, the question at hand was whether he had to uprade to termi honours before giving him termi armour, the answer to that is no.
The rest may or may not be true, but you didn't answer the thread and then went and told me I was wrong for answering it=) Gotta love it.
furthermore, in a post you made last week you put it as suchWell, Master Crafting is an upgrade of a particular weapon.
And a Blessed weapon already has that upgrade (it says so, right there).
So you cannot take it again.
This is similar to the way that SM models cannot take Terminator Armour (which includes Terminator Honours) and Terminator Honours seperately.

From what I have seen in the codex, it looks like you have to have access to wargear to have terminator armor and the only way to get into the wargear is to pay for terminator honours. So to me, I would say you had to buy both. When it says that the armor includes the honours, I think it is referring to terminators already having terminator honours. But I could be wrong.
Firstly, in order to gain access to the armoury, the sergeant must be a veteran sergeant, as I explained. Perhaps i should have pointed out that a Veteran Sergeant is simply a sergeant with Terminator Honours. Therefore, in order to have access to the Suit of Terminator Armour in the Armoury the sergeant must already have terminator honours.Originally Posted by tarzen
As to the quote from the Blessed Weapon thread:
My comment in the Blessed Weapon thread was on the subject of duplicate items of wargear where one of the items is included in another. This thread is about what the model needs to have in order to take Terminator Armour. Which is access to the armoury and either Independent character status or the appropriate trait.'
Now, to quote the Codex exactly:
"... the wearer automatically has Terminator Honours at no extra cost..."
Step 1. Buy the squad.
Step 2. Upgrade the Sergeant to a Veteran Sergeant (IE Give him Terminator Honours). If this is not done, he has no access to the armoury, and therefore could not take Terminator Armour.
Step 3. Purchase him a suit of Terminator Armour, ordinarily (IE in an Independent Character) this would automatically give him Terminator Honours. In this case, he already has to have Terminator Honours to have access to the suit, so he doesn't gain them again.
You must either have an old Space Marine Codex or you seem to be hung up on exact verbage.Originally Posted by tarzen

My original question was worded correctly and you have failed to answer it...
If you can provide some useful input as to why anyone would choose the Scions of Mars trait, that would be helpful, otherwise please stop replying to my question.
