if i buy a lord and all his wg is either spawns or chaos hounds or somthing of the sort
does the rules for majority armour apply when shooting at him or fighting him in close combat.
and how does this apply to other armies such as orks with grot dogs etc.
i know if the model which purchase the wargear is killed ie emp champ call out all his wg and assistants are also considered to be lost. but how does it work for him being shot at or attacked in close combat
Edit - removed this part (Was incorrect, bad Cal! Bad!)
When a character has followers, he forms a small unit with them. All rules and restrictions concerning shooting at units now apply to the character and his followers, so they will in fact suffer from the majority toughness and armour save rules. This is why having Thralls outside of the safety of a unit is such a bad idea.
Counter to Caluin's first statement, the rules for Majority Toughness (pages 23, 41) and Mixed Armour Saves (page 76) apply to both shooting and close combat.
However, in close combat an Independent Character is always treated as a separate unit when resolving hits/wounds so cannot be subject to either rule in an assault. Other models/units are affected normally.
But thats the thing, when he gains thralls they become an new unit and the IC rules don't apply.
Partly incorrect. You're right in that they do count as a unit, and so if you shot at them you would use both the Majority Toughness and Majority Armour Save rules.
However, while in combat, you always target ICs separately, and they always count as a separate unit. So your attackers could choose to target the Lord or the unit of his followers (of course, if they were only in base contact with the Lord they could only attack the lord, anc vice versa).
