I have had quite a few different variations on this rule when playing people at my local GW(I play DA). As the younger, less experienced player, whatever they say pretty much is the rule. One of the store guys(I play them a bit) said, on one occasion, that he couldn't make my troops have to make morale checks, then, in a later game said that, instead of falling back, the become pinned(regardless of whether the weapon has pinning or not). Another guy completely ignored it altogether, though I still thoroughly kicked his butt.
In... I forget who's DA guide, he/she said "in the rare event of pinning," which would suggest that intractible marines are only pinned when they would regularly be pinned, I.E. by pinning weapons. Soo.. who's right, and, if nobody is, then what's the rule?
"My inner self could whup your inner self!"
Its a complex matter, between the old DA codex and the new FAQ you could try to make some sense of it but the general idea is that when DA have to take a morale check for 25% casualties ion the shooting phase they instead take a pinning test.
