I know we're not supposed to post rules up on the forums, but I notice a lot of people say we can't post the stats of units or weapons because they're in the codex, which makes them sacred ground...
Yet we can post stuff that's out of print and/or available for free on the GW site...
So why can't we post stats for the different units and the different weapons? All of the army reference sheets (except space marine) are available for free online...
You can't because you can't.
Just don't do it.
Because you cant. Feel free to link people to the free stat sheets, but we can not post them here. This is part of GW's IP policy and so we must respect their wishes.
Thanks, Knape, I was hoping for a specific reason.
That's cool. I didn't realize that GW had a policy specifically for it, but it makes sense. It probably alleviates confusion, as well, linking people directly to the reference sheets as opposed to people mistyping stats in a post.
The specific reason is a simple one: so Librarium Online doesn't get sued by GW.
The material we are discussing is licensed from GW. If you read the fine print we really don't own anything but a copy of the rules. Owning the copy gives us absolutely no rights to the rules themselves. Because we don't own the actual rules it is illegal for us to put them into print in any way. It breaks international copyright laws and can cause a lot of problems.
Hope this satisfied your curiosity.
I do not criticize. I do not offend. All I offer is my opinion which means only as much as you make it.
There are 2 applicable laws - copyright and IPR, neither if which we want to fall foul of
Everything you have been told is a lie!
