Book armoured fences...

once i was playing a marine vs.marine game and used 4 vehichles(2 rhinos and 2 land raiders)to trap a squad of assault terminators in a box(no thunder hammers) by the rules of 40k if you try to tank shock a squad they can simply step out of the way.(Tank Shock Rules)
However in this case the squad couldnt go anywhere so im wondering would they be destroyed if i moved one of the vehicles into the centre? The certainly couldnt escape but at the same time theres nothing like this covered in the rulebook,I emailed GW but all i got was a quote of the rules,
any ideas?

rules state they move out of the way... if they have to hop an un-moving tank to do it, then so be it.

if that doesn't make you feel better... then assume they're smart enough to rush forward out of the corall of tanks before the final unit slides in.

but can't models not be in the same pace as other models? Other wise I can see people putting a unit of Heavy Destroyers on top of a Monolith for a better LoS.

Out of the way is out of the way. If you want to get crazy, it is hard to "park" a tank close enough to crush someone against another. I'd also argue that the LR sponsons gave them an avenue of escape since it would give them the space to slide through and away. Those nasty tanks are kinda high off the ground also. Maybe they could lay down.....bla bla bla.....

Nice tactic btw. That's a pretty sweet idea. Although I'd hesitate to leave vehicles in one place for that long.

What I would have done was forced them to make a rough terrain test to climb over top of your vehicles that were blocking their escape from the tank shock and I'd also call it dangerous terrain. (page 17 of the main rulebook.)

But, they were assault terminators. (With lightning claws I'm guessing.)

I can't really see terminators climbing all that well. I guess they could grab ahold of something with their claws and pull themselves up, but they never struck me as all that manueverable.

This sort of situation has to come up in other situations as well.

What happens when you get tank shocked and there is no where to go to?

Say a unit is surrounded on 3 sides by impassable terrain and they get tank shocked from the one open direction, what happens?

I'm checking the rules for tank shocking on page 70-71 of the main rulebook and I'm not seeing anything beyond the "unit must be moved out of the way by the shortest possible distance" entry.

Hmm.

Sorry I can't help.

Maybe some other folks have some insight.

Its an interesting question.

We also need to remember that "no model may come within 1" of an enemy it is not assaulting."

In this instance I would say that they saw the last tank bearing down and would move out of the box to the closest clear space.

But once again a really good 2nd ed rule, you could ram enemies with vehicles, has become a problem with our evil gamers minds working on them.

i would have just used one of the rhinos to delay them but their weapons were all destroyed so i decided to go hog wild,
was just wondering if anyone knew anyway(the difficult terrain test sounds pretty good, cheers grey)

On reviewing the rules it states that models that the models have to be moved out of the way by the shortest distance as such i would interpret that they would wind up behind the tank that has tank shocked them, think of them as finding a way to squeeze through gaps or something else. However if they failed they would be stuck as they would have no where to go and become Trapped!

I wouldn't care if I was wearing a suit made of pure molten lead mixed with horse dung and thumb tacks, I'd be up and over the tank like a rat up a drainpipe if I was in that situation, or possibly dive and roll at the last second before the tank squashed me. The same could be said for impassable terrain; they might not be able to climb up anything but whose to say the troopers wouldn't just dive past the tank as it rolled towards them? If that were me I'd just move the models to the rear of the vehicle which had tank shocked them.
