Greetings all... I have a few questions that my friends and I have come up against the last couple of days as I've been playing my new nid army in test battles. Most of the problems we are having revolve around biovores and the behaviour of spore mines.
The first question is: After you place the spore mine on the table (being shot by the biovore) you then roll the 2D6 scatter and move the mine to the indicated spot, or keep it where it is if it's a "HIT" on the die. Now chapter approved says that you can target a model by placing the mine in B2B contact with the model so that if the spore mine doesn't scatter it will immediately detonate. However... what if during the course of movement to the spot indicated it runs into an enemy model... will it then detonate? Or is the scatter meant to indicate that the mine just misses where the biovore wanted to shoot, similar to an ordnance scatter? The reason I ask is because for "drift" during the Tyranid movement phase if it hits a model on the way to its destination it detonates.
(EDIT NOTE: Got off the phone with rulez boyz and he told me that it is an actual scatter, not a drift movement. The final scatter is where it lands, period.)
Secondly, how do the "shrouding" or night fighting rules effect a biovore firing a spore mine? They aren't guess range, so would that mean no effect on them?
(EDIT NOTE: The rulez boyz have no official answer to this. How do YOU play it?)
Thirdly... can you target the top of a vehicle with a spore mine? Or would you have to place it in contact on one of the flanks or sides of a vehicle?
(EDIT NOTE: According to the same fellas, you can and if it hits it goes boom.)
Thanks for any help you can give me on these questions... as we're at a bit of a loss on them.
--- Correct.(EDIT NOTE: Got off the phone with rulez boyz and he told me that it is an actual scatter, not a drift movement. The final scatter is where it lands, period.)--- By the book, no effect. However, I can see the rationale of applying the same extra scatter for Biovores as Barrage weapons. Discuss this with Your opponent.Secondly, how do the "shrouding" or night fighting rules effect a biovore firing a spore mine? They aren't guess range, so would that mean no effect on them?--- Yes. Just bear in mind that there is no top armour value. The facing hit by the mine is decided as per the diagram on page 86 in the main rulebook. If a Bio-Acid mine detonates on top of a vehicle, the hit on the vehicle is determined from the spot where the flamer template starts.Thirdly... can you target the top of a vehicle with a spore mine?
