Hey! If a Tau commander is accompanied with two Shield drones then does he still count as a independant character for the purposes of the enemy trying to shoot him when he is withen 6'' of another friendly unit?

Generally speaking, alot of IC loose their IC status while in a squad unless it's a retinue I believe. But to my recollection...shield drones aren't counted as parts of the squad right? they are just expendable inv. saves?...I could be wrong though..I admit I don't know alot about Tau.Originally Posted by tz_201
I'm not a tau expert or anything, but wouldn't the drones be wargear in this instance?Originally Posted by tz_201

And return from the ashes you call.
Yes, the drones aren't actually part of a squad or retinue in this case but are instead a form of wargear. Therefore I beleive he keeps his IC status.

Ask yourself why in the world would you trust a win loss record? Playing them yourself is the only way to tell.
The true joy in the game is playing down to the last model, no matter the odds.
Independant Characters always count as Independant Characters regardless of what unit they are attached to. An IC never loses its IC status.Originally Posted by tz_201
Also, there is no '6" rule' for targetting ICs, anymore. That rule died with the 3rd Edition rulebook.
I understand what you mean, though, and the answer depends on the codex wording. If it says that the Drones form a unit with the IC, then targetting the group is just like targetting any other squad.
Why do the survivors remain anonymous -- as if cursed -- while the dead are revered? Why do we cling to what we lose while we ignore what we still hold?
Name none of the fallen, for they stood in our place, and stand there still in each moment of our lives.
