A competitor at one of my FLGS tournament's plays Tyranids. He uses a Winged HT in his Godzilla list. He played several people, but not me. Against those people, he used the Deep Strike special rule for his winged tyrant. From what I've read in the Tyranid Codex, giving a bug wings makes it Jump Infantry. Jump Infantry, from page 55 of my itty bitty rulebook, do not inherently get Deep Strike. The Deep Strike special rules say, rather clearly, that units may deep strike when described as having that ability in their codex. Codex says squat about winged guys having DS, other than Gargoyles, where it specifically mentions it.
Now, all my thoughts and interperatations lead me to believe that the competitor was at best 'mistaken'. If, perchance Winged Tyrants can DS, I'd surely like to know so I can put one down in dreaded Escalation tourney games. Winged Warriors too, as they're in the same boat.
Thoughts? Questions? Cake or Death?
From what I know, I don't think being Jump Infantry automatically gives anybody deepstrike. Those that have it have it detailed in their codex entry.
... only triumph could turn pooing his pants into a good thing..
Jump infantry dont automatically get Deep Strike. So the competitor was cheating. The entry must have the ablity to deepstrike. So, models with space marine jump packs or gargoyles can deepstrike but not tyrants.
He was cheating indeed, in the previous codex winged tyrants could deepstrike because the winged description mentioned it could deesptrike, in the current codex there isn't.
There's no mistaken.
Yep, jump infantry just often have deep strike along with their jump rules. It is always listed seperately though, and jump infantry never get it inherently. Ork stormboys, for example. are jump infantry, but cannot deep strike.
