According to the Tau Codex the Kroot can see and shoot through up tp 12" of wooded terrain, or so I am told. If a squad of kroot are 3" away from the wooded terrain and a unit of SM are on the far edge of the wooded terrain, can the kroot see them and shoot at them? The wooded terrain isexactly 12" wide. I would think the kroot would need to be at the edge of the terrain to be able to see the 12" through it. My opponent says no. As long as the enemy are within range it does not matter. Seems to eliminate the purpose of cove to me. Who is right?
No you can't shoot through terrain, what's that rule for the kroot means is that they can shoot 12" in the woods. So we say that we have a piece of terrain that is 12" long in one end there is a squad of kroot and in the other end is a space marine squad. The space marine can only shoot 6" in the wood but if the rules for kroot are as you say then they can shoot at the space marines but the marines can't shoot back.

Long ago there was something in me, but now that thing is gone,
I cannot cry, I cannot care, that thing will come back no more.
