If a Space Marine firing a plasma gun rolls a 1 to hit he must take the wound himself. In the rule book it explains that he takes an armour save but is not clear on whether this is always allowed or, as it is an AP2 weapon he cannot in this situation. Can someone please clarify.
As far as I'm aware he can try to save the wound. He's been hit by venting gas or whatever from the weapon, not shot himself in the foot!:w00t:
Actually a tricky question...
In the rulebook it says "he has to take an armour save" so he has to take one it is not important that his weapon has AP2. The example of the rulebook somehow already shows that. Why should they use an exception to explain the rule?
It also seems logical. The Marine does not get hit by a plasma gun! The plasma gun gets hot and he burns his fingers.
Maybe you could explain it like that... If you get hit by a burning arrow you are burning, but if you light the arrow and burn your fingers you're not burning, but somehow hurt...
mad explanation, but I understand it like that.
Hope that could clarify it and did not confuse you even more.

The guys above are correct. Regardless of the armour save value of the model in question, they get to attempt a save from a "gets hot" result for plasma weaponry. If Marines didn't get this save I'm pretty sure no SM player would take plasma guns at all
OR the plasma gun explodes into a fiery ball of death killing the space marine in a gruesome manner.Originally Posted by Hekau Chasut

I'm pretty sure that it doesn't. If it did, then vehicles would be losing their plasma weapons all the time.Originally Posted by Forgotten Flashlight

Name none of the fallen, for they stood in our place, and stand there still in each moment of our lives.

I remember reading somewhere that when a plasmagun (or pistol) overheats it ejects super-heated steam out of its cooling vents. This is what potentially causes a wound, unless of course the model makes its armor save.
Just out of curiousity, whats next? Maybe you can make an issue about the fact that GW didn't define the action of 'rolling' a D6 to actually mean dropping it in such a manner as to produce a random result; thus making it perfectly acceptable to just put them down with the face up of your choice?
Is there an echo in here? Seems like the same things just being repeated...maybe it's just me.
