high just been looking through the new vertion of the imperial guard codex and realised unlike the old one you cannt have within an elite choice of hardened vets a veteran officer is seems just wonderinmg if some one could confim this for me and explain why. cheers mark
I think I understand youq question. A hardened veteran squad is simply a normal squad that has survived countless battle, they'll get a good sargent, but it's hardly worthy of a imperial officer. You can have a vet sarge. (Codex isn't on me, correct if wrong)
Though unnumbered lurking perils await us, our blades will ever be ready.
FOR WE ARE THE EMPEROR'S VENGEANCE!
If memory serves me correctly a hardened veteran squad gets an automatic veteran sergeant that can take officer only wargear and has BS4. So you get an almost officer.

I came, I saw, I got a different type of Leman Russ.

Rules for grenades are on page 72 of the rulebook.
Yes, you both are correct. In third ed Vets got a lot of funky options- they could get bolters, plasma pistols, hellguns, battle honors, sniper rifles, and, yes, a veteran officer. They now have the trimmed down unit entry you see in the codex now, with one sergeant that can access Officer Only wargear, a heavy, three specials, BS4 blah blah blah. No Officer- I guess it was decided that one hidden powerfist a squad is plenty for the Guard.
cheers for answering the question m8, so cant they have the sniper rifle either in the new rules
