Okay. I have made a creature or two using the Monstrous creature special rules. I noticed though, that they are ridiculously cheap for what they do compared to my regular Tyranids.
My friend, whom I regularly play with, made two extra-long transport thingies with the Vehicle Creation Rules. They carry six troops each and have that gun that rends. They are for his Blood Angel army.
Anyway, I was fine with him using them and the points cost for them didn't seem to out of whack to me for what they did (Plus, only 10 armor all the way around).
But, upon seeing my monstrous creations he didn't want me using them in regular games because he said they were too cheap for how powerful they were and he said that, at the very least they wouldn't be allowed to have more than four wounds.
I thought about saying, "well, you can't use your special vehicles then, either." But, I've played several game with them already and they seem okay for balance issues to me.
The question I'm asking is, are the VCR rules more balanced than the Monstrous Creation rules? Are they fair and not too out of whack with the game points wise? Basically, if we want to have fun and use these rules in regular games against each other do you think that I should be able to use mine the way they are or jack up their points cost because you feel the MCR are too cheap?
lol, whenever i tried to make a monstrous creature with those rules it always seemed to cost me heaps more than my tyrant, even if it wasnt as effective...
but i dunno, maybe your guys are more specialised or something?
what sorta units did you make? and what sorta tanks is your opponent using?
id just jack up the points myself... because remember, you do need your opponents permission to use these units
I've never looked at the MC creation rules, but yeah, VDR vehicles are over-priced across the board. If you make an existing unit, say a Land Speeder Tornado for example, the VDR price will always be higher than the codex price.
The reason for this is that you're making a specialized unit custom-tailored to what you need (or think you need) in your army.
Like I said, I don't know about the creature rules, but yeah, he's overpaying for what those units are worth, but that's how the rules were meant to be designed (not to mention the fact that assault cannons are artificially low priced as they used to jam under third edition which is what was around when VDR was created). If he really needs six man transports with rending guns, well, he's gonna have to pay for them.
In short, go Arnold on him and tell him to stop whining.
We all carry on,
When our brothers in arms are gone.
So raise your glass high
For tomorrow we die,
And return from the ashes you call.
