I am planning to do the white scars army, but i really dislike the white scars chapter symbol colors of yellow and red. Could i change the colors or will that change the codex?
well I have Ultramarines but they don't have any chapter symbol. I'm pretty sure that as long as you have the codex, dont use another chapters symbol (someone might complain if you do), and follow the rules for that Codex. Then it doesn't really matter just say that it was a chapter that sprung off of the White Scars and made a new chapter. Space Marines do that a lot they have over 1000 chapters and they only started with less then 20.
You can paint them any way you want. As Zahor pointed out, painting them up with Ultramarine symbols and saying they're White Scars wouldn't be a good idea. But nothing stops you from painting them in Ultramarine colors and using another, or your own, chapter markings. You could even use White Scar's symbols and paint them different colors.
