I was wondering, if it was possible to have more then one model on a single base.
I'm working on a fancy base for my space marine commander, and I was thinking, since he and the Company Champion are always together (unless one of them dies of course), and I was curious if i could put both of them on one base. I measured it, and the distance of the bottoms of the two models is the same as if they were on seperate small bases.
I know that it restricts them in battle, but this is more for display, that i would occasionally bring into combat.
No. The problem is that the Commander fights as a seperate unit in CC, cause he is an IC. So if he was on the same base as your company champion, it would be impossable for you to engage just the IC. It would be having 2 guys from different squads on one base. So if one of the models is an IC, I would have to say no. If however both of the models are regular troops, like an Apothecary and the Company Champion, then no problem. It horrably restricts you, and I would not do it in a tournament, but it certainly benifits your oppenent so there would be no reason for him to make a fuss. Just make sure one of them can be removed from the base.
If you really wanted to you could model them together, then replace the big-base model with 2 regular models when your in CC. But that seems like it's more work then it's worth.
IG heavy weapons teams are frequently modelled on a single base but are treated as two seperate models (ie no insta kill), they show up at all our tournaments. I'm just not sure if it's a convention or explicitly stated as allowable in the IG Codex.
I would say though that you would need your opponent's permission. Wish I could back that up with a page ref but I'm at work.

Put them on two separate, regular bases that fit inside the larger diorama. This way, if you need to separate them you can just pull them out. It’s done all the time (look at most mdel boards used to move armies around in tourneys. They are set up like this). The small base recesses into the diorama just enough so that the top of the small base is level with the top of the diorama. When you base them the same as the diorama, it looks very nice.
Alright, thanks for the info! (I totaly forgot about how the IG heavy weapons teams are two models on one base, I always think of them as one model...) Im sure I can figure out a way to have the Champion seperate from the main base when I need to.
