The general rules book is very unclear on how template weapons function in city ruins under normal playing scenarios. I have recently picked up the "Cities of Death" Codex. On pages 12-13 it clarifies a number of questions in regards to how template weapons will hit. However, do these rules pertain to normal 40k games or are they spacificaly for CoD scenarios ?
An example was in my last game.. my opponent and i were playing a normal "Take and Hold" mission. We were using some multi level building ruins. I wanted to use my flame template against his troops deployed in cover of the building on the floor above where my troops were. He said that i could only use my flamer against enemies on the same level that i was on. I had mentioned that in CoD it allowed me to use it against enemies on the same levels as my troops as well as a level above and a level below. He said...that was only in CoD scenarios and not in normal missions.
We tried looking in the regular rule book on how it should be resolved and we werent able to find anything regarding this. To keep things moving along i decided to yield and let it go.
Now that i have looked into it. It seems the CoD book really clarifies a number of issues, such as the blastmarker/template issue. It also is alot clearer on how to resolve assaults into multi level ruins and Line of site. Things that arent even touched on in the General rules.
So my question is... are the City ruins rules in the CoD book the ones to use in all types of missions ?
Well, I'd have to say no as it is a rules supplement. In fact, some of the rules (such as the firesweep mission) even contradict previous rulings on things such as holding buildings.
Ask yourself why in the world would you trust a win loss record? Playing them yourself is the only way to tell.
The true joy in the game is playing down to the last model, no matter the odds.
so what is the actual rule ? does the flamer template hit everything on all floors ? or just on that one floor? Where in the rulebook does it mention it ?
To clarify what the others are saying, the templete WOULD hit everything on all floors. As do Blasts, using standard 40k rules from the bgb. That said, I know a great many people who dispise this and house rule it to follow COD, only one floor affected.
As said, COD is not 40k, it is a supplement that carries it's own rules for playing. Just look at the coherency issues=)
