Default use of missile launchers

Hi,

My rules question is regarding the use of missile launchers.
I have a dreadnought with a bank of 8 rockets sticking out.
When I shoot, do I fire all 8 or am I only allowed 1 each turn ?
I dont find it clear in the rule book. Also, whats the procedure ?
Do I select a target, roll a 1D6, to hit and use the hit table or
do I just roll the scatter dice and 1D6 for deviation.
I know that I use the small template for frags and none for crak.

Thanks for tolerating my newbie crap but you gotta ask the questions.

btw, I have finally chosen a chapter (Blood Angels) after long deliberations about my ebay purchases ...
got a good mix of marine stuff but got 2 lots a death company, an immolator, green and red marines ... lots of red paint to spare so tried a bit o painting and thought the red looked good. Gave some thought to starting a new chapter "Hellrazers" gettit ???
raze Hell's demons to the ground. Maybe after I play for a while and settle in to 40k.

My young bloke love orks but is unhappy with the "stupid" ork syndrome and the anti-human mentality. Some research found the Blood Axes - smarter than usual and people friendly. He's happy now.

Anywayz all help appreciated.

Just one missle.

Correct firing procedure is just shooting it, and putting a template on the target if you hit it. It's just a weapon, not a ordinance blast...

So ...
1. I pick a target,
2. roll to hit,
3. then if it is, place template and work out the results.

What about the scatter, is that just for ordanance ?

You ask some questions that border on breaking copyright if we give you direct answers, so I'll do my best to answer your question without breaking forum rules, as well as giving you the place to find the answers for later questions.

The actual model doesn't matter, so long as it represents the weapons and equipment it has. For instance, you could have a Missile Launcher bay with 24 rockets on it, and it'd fire at the same rate as a missile bay with only 2 rockets.

As for how many shots you get a turn with the Missile Launcher, it'll fire as many times as listed in it's profile next to the weapon Type. For further explanation, check page 29 of the 40K Rulebook (AKA, the BG.

Only Ordnance and Barrage weapons scatter. The Missile Launcher is neither of these, so you fire normally and use the Blast Template to determine how many hits you get. See page 30 of the BGB for clarification.

That clears that up.
Now I can have a honest game with my son.

I wasnt aware of the copyright issues.
I thought that was just about copying figures or
putting pages out of gw books online.
I didnt give much thought to intellectual property.

So what can I ask(post) and what can't I ,because I have a
load of questions about rules n stuff ?

There's a fine line between what's acceptable and what's not, but LO tries to stay as far away from that line as possible. As such, along with the obvious stuff you listed, we try not to list the profiles for weapons or models (such as how many shots they get, strength, etc) or direct quotes of rules.

For instance, while it was acceptable to tell you that Ordnance and Barrage weapons are the only thing that scatter, it wouldn't be acceptable to tell you exactly how to go about the scattering process.

It's worth noting here that the Missile Launcher can fire 2 different types of warheads (Frag and Krak)...

The weaker shot (Frag) uses the small blast template like you're saying, so it might hit several targets. Useless against tanks and extremely tough creatures, though...

The stronger shot (Krak, which you'll be using for cracking open tanks and such) does not use the template, because it makes a powerful hit against a single target.

Ok, here goes.

1. You can always check it in your Codex. It says "Heavy X" where X is the number of shots fired per turn. For example: a Codex states that a weapon is "Heavy 3", this weapon will fire three rounds per turn. As for the model having a Missile-bay, models often look like they could have a higher rate of fire but the game needs to be balanced. Lets be honest, 8 rockets in one turn is just plain sick!

2. It depents on what kind of missile you fire:

Krak missile
- Pick your traget
- To-hit roll
- To-wound roll

Frag missile
- Pick your traget
- To-hit roll
- Place template and roll for partials (rulebook pg.30 "Blast Weapon")
- To-wound roll

Yeah that would be sick. Although, speaking of nasty missile shots. It is sickening to watch your opponent roll a 6 for the number of missiles that the Witch Hunter's Exorcist shoots that turn. Ouch, I've watched many of my vehicles go up in holy flame when that thing shoots.
