Not sure whether this is the right place for this as I am new to this place, but I have been trying to work up some rules to allow me to field an all Deathwatch army. The inspiration for this was the Eisenhorn trilogy, specifically the 60 Deathwatch marines fielded at one time. I have tried a few combinations of the chapter traits, as well as abusing the 'special ammo' rules for the 'regular' deathwatch, but it doesn't really seem to work, as they get stomped.
Any ideas on what to try next?
I think the major problem is the lack of models.
Deathwatch models can get very expensive, and its very likely to get outnumbered in a similar fashion as Grey Knights.
I'd probably get accustomed to the playing style of the Deathwatch ( I ran a kill team, and it performed admirably the first time). Run some kill teams to figure out the nuances.
I'll get back to you with my ideas.
This probably belongs in Rules Development.
You can add a DW kill team HQ to a DH army of grey knights. Paint them all as deathwatch.
It is an idea, but I don't really want a GK army, otherwise I would go and collect them instead. I don't think the GK really fit with the DW ethos either. One is an Elite Chapter, with storm bolters and customised and rare force weapon variants, the other is a fluctuating chapter made up of marines from many different chapters, armed pretty much as usual, and with access to fun ammo, and a few grav-assisted heavy bolters. I would like to field them as such. Never the less, I could work on engineering a mix between the basic marine and GK rulesbases, and take the bits that suit the DW.
I think you'll have to wait until xenoshunter is finished. But i hear it is keep being pushed back. Until then all you can do is play around with other lists and "try" to make a fit
Nope, I'm afraid it is perfectly legal from both sides. The Deathwatch Kill Team rules say that you can field them with any "Imperium" army, which is specified there as "any spave mrine army picked using only codex Space Marines, any Imperial Guard, or any Inquisitorial army (Daemonhunters, Witch Hunters, or Alien Hunters)"
Then, in the Daemonhunters codex, it specifies that any Daemonhunters army may have either an allied Space Marine or Imperial Guard contingent. The Space Marine allies are limited to only a few selections, i.e. you can't field a GK army with a pair of Space Marine legendary heroes, such as, say Marneus Calgar and Master Librarian Tigurius.
Thanks for that post though Canew, because I have just noticed that the DW rules specify "Alien Hunters" as an Inquisitorial army! It seems that they definitely want to make the Ordo Xenos, and that has made me very pleased. Now, when will they be coming out...?
Note I'm NOT talking about a Space Marines army with GK inductees. That's a totally different situation.
Canews right, Death Watch (SM) cannot be included in a Dh army when grey knights are present, its either one or the other.
For a deathwatch army use a DW kill team and a SM chapter with the traits Trust your battlebrothers and see but don't be seen. Similar to the DW rules.
Alternatively you could ise Ultra Marines that count as DW so you can take tyannic war veterans. TWV have acces to Hellfire rounds for their heavy bolters.

What if you used a SM army w/ INQ allies? Then you can have GKs. And it says you can have other allies as long as they are from the Inquisition. So you could take a DW Kill Team too and even allies from both xenos and mallus. This seems a little cheesy but you could possibly take more - if you can have 0-1 DH elites and 0-1 WH elites allowed you could take an elite WH inqusitor and an elite DH assassin, possibly teleporting GK troops as FA, and still have the KT HQ and your SM HQ. I'm not positive on some of this but I think SM w/ Inq allies is the way to go. Then you could even have Ultramarines w/ tyrannic war veterans right?
