As the title states when a unit in combat breaks and runs does the winning side havce to sweep or can they opt to just consolidate. I know this sounds a bit unpractical in most situataions.
Thx in advance
Thanks for the link even if it offered no real clear answer
Uh okay.....You do not have to "sweeping advance". You can consolidate. Yes sometimes it is better to consolidate away from your next enemy or behind cover or into terrain i.e. a massacre in the open leads to a sitting duck next turn....Not a dumb question.
Alright, thanks everyone. This tactic was more directed towards marine players as in the other post.
Nowhere in the Sweeping Advance rules does it state or even imply that you may opt to refrain from making a Sweeping Advance. It does state that "When a unit falls back from combat, the victors make a Sweeping Advance, attempting to cut down the falling back enemies..."
You'll note that it does not say "When a unit falls back from combat, the victors may make a Sweeping Advance..."
Simply put, you did offer a clear answer, but the answer you offered was incorrect.
Units may not refrain from making Sweeping Advances. The rules state that they will make Sweeping Advances. (except when prevented from doing so by some other rules, such as Space Marine Terminators)
You can't simply opt out of following a rule because you do not like the results. You always attempt to Sweeping Advance if able. End of story.
After cracking the book, Bean is correct....
Yeah, as pointed out, bgb p 43 says it happens. Not that you may choose. So it's not a choice thing, it's a condition thing.
16,000+ of Eldar (only need flyers)
7,000+ of Nids (want heirophant)
6,000+ of Space Marines (need rever titan)
4,400+ of Cygnar (all models for the faction)
1,500+ of Legion (just started)
