Am I correct in thinking that if a unit wants to fire at full range with a rapid fire weapon then is it NOT allowed to move in the movement phase? Also, can a unit fire twice under 12" range with rapid fire weapons even if it has moved?
If I remember correctly it goes like this
If you want to shoot at full range you can not move.
If you want to rapid fire, shoot 2x less then 12" you can not move.
If you want to move you can only shoot once at 12" or less.
I think that's about right.
I don't believe that's quite right.
P.29 of the BGB, under "Rapid Fire Weapons" has the (fairly clear) rules.
DarkBishop, your close but you can fire twice at 12"'s whether you move or not; you have to stay still in order to fire the weapon at full range.

Not to be an ass...but I have a hard time believing how anyone could be confused about the Rapid Fire rules. they are fairly clear, and fairly concise.
Please read the rule book. We are not here to give you the rules so you don't have to buy the book...
Unless the question is "can you choose to only fire once within Rapid Fire range" it's pretty obvious you are only fishing for rules.

Except rapid fire is a really simple thing that people who go from 3rd to 4th edition are probably going to skim over when they read the new book and therefore get confused about.
Besides, I've lost my rulebook. Hell, I'm confused all the time.
The 3rd edition way always made more sense, to be honest.

Actually the BGB doesn't "require" you to rapid fire under 12", it only gives you the choice (use of the word- can as opposed to must or shall). Whether you can split rapid fire so that the PGunner can worry less about overheat. I am not sure. Practically, I would say yest you can cherry pick your fire rates. Fluff wise I would role an LD test for the plasma gunner, success- players choice, fail he follows what the rest of the squad does (either 1 or 2 shots).
I would think that if everyone around me is "rocking and rolling", I would not be sitting there just popping off one shot unless the gun couldn't cycle faster.
When in doubt call in an ordnance strike.
