What? Teams can ally? Well I didn't knew that...
Yeah this is a viable question. I used to play 2nd edition rules, and have recently began picking up third edition. I'm a little confused as to who can have allies and who they can be. I undestand that SM chapters can ally with each other and if you're playing a 2v2 with some friends you can be each others allies. But if you're playing a 1v1, can armies have allies like they used to. I havent seen any rules for it. Like before I could use SM and have IG allies, is this still possible? Thanks
There are no generic rules for which armies can ally with one another. Some armies have specific rules about using allies, or joining other armies, but those rules apply only to them and are listed in the appropriate codex or special list rules, i.e., Deamon Hunters, Tau mercenaries, etc.
Beyond that, you can play two armies on one side however you want. Its really up to the players unless a specific tournament puts out rules for that tourney. If you want to have Space Wolves and Chaos on one side against Orcs and Tyranids on the other, its up to you. There are no rules for those type of teams. If you want to create some background reasoning for it then you can, otherwise don't worry about it. They do have to remain separate and distinct armies however. You cannot blend two armies together. No putting Orc troops units into the Tyranid army, for example.
Ah ok, thanks wolfraider, it's a bit different than second edition then. You used to be able to use of 25% of your army points for allies of any type. Thanks again
