Forgive me if this is an old question, but it is still new to me.
When a Ordnance Weapon (Battle Cannon) says "Ordnance 1/ Blast" for type, Do I use the Ordnance template or the smaller Blast Template?
Thank you for any feedback and support.
(referring to the Imperial Guard Armored Company Rules Page 1 posted on the US GW Website)
If you search around you'll find this one has no universally accepted answer.
I am of the opinion that in 4th Ed all Ordnance uses the large template. The instructions for firing an Ordnance weapon explicitly say 'Place the large...' If you tell me I have an Ordnance weapon that doesn't use the large Blast Marker, then there are no rules anywhere for how I fire it. In effect I would not be allowed to use such a weapon at all.
On the next page it does refer to Ordnance that doesn't use the large marker; however, it says some weapons have optional ammo. This directly concludes that an Ordnance weapon with only one firing mode uses the large Blast Marker.
Other people will tell you that's a pile of BS semantic gerrymandering and you must use the weapon's stat line as printed in the most current codex. Boohoo for armies with 3rd ed codexes.
(One can also note that on p29 of the 4th Ed rulebook the Battle Cannon is listed as an example and cites Large Blast)
In a controversy the instant we feel anger we have already ceased striving for the truth, and have begun striving for ourselves.
It does state on P.30 BGB that Ordnance weapons use the Large Blast Marker, and goes on to say also that there are some Ordnance weapons which say that they do *not* use the big blast template.
If it doesn't specifically say that the small blast marker is used, it is safe to infer that the large one *is*.
It's also important to remember that the wording for Ordnance weapon type is different in 4th Ed to 3rd Ed, and that 3rd Ed codices will still say Ordnance1/Blast whereas the 4th Ed says Ordnance1/Large Blast, but both refer to the Large Blast Marker.
"Tau Commandment #226: Participants who use Velocity Trackers in the Tau Clay Pigeon Tournament will be disqualified"
I know that if a tank is using Anti-Tank rounds, such as the Vanquisher Cannon, it doesn't use the template but instead uses the model's BS to calculate the amount of hits, and determines the side by what angle the model is facing. As for weapon types however, it still counts as an ordnance for penetration purposes.
thank you for all the help.
btw: I'm not sure why such a huge weapon flying from a battle cannon would use the same marker as a plasma cannon or frag grenade. it just makes no sense to me.
