    Rending and Tank Hunters

I just had an idea. If a unit (say, terminators) takes tank hunters, shoots at a vehicle, and rolls a 5 for AP, does that count as a 6 due to the tank hunter rules. Also, if I were to roll a 6, would that count as a 7, and not rend?

I think that the +1 would be added after its all done

so if you shoot a a tank roll the six for rend then roll the second dice and get another 6 then you'd get a strength 6(Weapon strength)+6(rend shot)+6(the rend)+1 (tank hunters)

so basicly a termie squad with tank hunters and some ven dreads can totally whip a LR or Russ

Techmarine has it right. Tank hunters does not alter what you roll, it just adds one to the total penetration roll (i.e. D6+S).

Rolling a 5 does not become a rending 6 as a side effect, either.

    Okay, cool. That makes sense.
Still, two assault cannons w/tank hunters would be awesome.

Yeah, I think the key is that Rending says, "on a roll of six"...

I've been playing with Tankhunter assault cannons on my termis for about half a year now. Its good for downing skimmers that get too close. And usually with the terrain, the skimmer find its difficult to get a good shooting phase without coming in range of something nasty.

equivalently, you just got 8 mobile autocannon shots with stormbolter range that rend on vehicles. Not bad. (assuming you have two assault cannons)

the tank hunters rule adds +1S to the base strength of the weapon then you add the AP roll. And yes, rending works on a ROLL of a 6.

the tank hunters rule adds +1S to the base strength of the weapon
Incorrect statement! There is an important distinction when firing on certain types of foul skimming xeno-tech. Tank hunters adds one to the armor penetration score. *NOT* the weapon's strength.
