Can deepstriking units deploy on top of/around your opponents units? I was thinking about protecting my IG tanks by deploying conscripts around them but I wasnt sure about the whole deep striking rule
I know it's a newb question, but thanks anyways
You can drop them around your models, if they scatter on top, I think your units move out of the way, but if you scatter into enemy troops or vehicles, both are destroyed.

Tau: 4/4/3 - 50%
DaemonHunters: 1/2/0 - 33.3%
Dark Angels: 3/1/0 - 75%
if you DS you need to be 1" away from stuff

--- Uh, no... Only the models in the DS:ing unit that can't be deployed on-template 1" away from enemy models are destroyed.Originally posted by Kiirar@Mar 5 2004, 147

In addition to staying at least 1" from the emeny, and maintaining unit cohesion...
From the FAQ:
When placing Deep Striking or Summoned models on the large ordnance template it is permissible to overlap bases by the minimum needed to fit the unit onto the template. Players must make every effort to fit models onto the template however congested they become. Sometimes, however, it may even be necessary (as a last resort) to place models beyond the edge of the template if the unit is particularly large. Under no circumstances should a player use this facility to get within shooting or charge range of a unit that would not otherwise be in reach and so they may only shoot or assault (if Summoned, Deep Striking troops cannot assault) enemy units that can be reached by measuring from the edge of the template. You may not overlap the edge of the template in this way if any enemy models are even partially under the template. So if a big unit is arriving do not attempt to bring it in close to the enemy, as the consequences could be messy.
So it is very unlikely you could DS 'around' a unit unless it was VERY small. That doesn't sound like deepstrike. That sounds like deploying your units as normal at the beginning of the battle. If that's what you're talking about, yes you could surround a tank with conscripts. However, since troops don't block Line of Sight (LOS) to vehicles, the only protection they would offer is a first target to an enemy assaulting unit. They would have to assault the conscripts first since they are in the way. Everything else could still shoot your tanks.I was thinking about protecting my IG tanks by deploying conscripts around them
Yeah ok, thanks Wolfraider, I just wanted to make sure his Deeptstriking Terminators couldnt take out my tanks in a hurry, thanks
