    Point Calculator

If someone were to make a point calculator for all the armies would that be bad juju?

What do you mean by point calculator? Like an army builder?

You can do things like that with army builder, can't you? Besides, I don't see how that would really be of any huge benefit, personally.

well, you are probably well versed with the 40k rules, so i can see why you wouldn't need one. I however am not. So for my first purchase, I want to buy an army I can use. In other words I want to have my 1st army pre-planned. I don't wanna drop $700 on an army only be able too field 1/2 of it.

Lost is talking about Army Builder, a software program that lets you build your army lists just by pointing and clicking. it applies all the rules and restrictions, your options, and points costs. Just like the old GW programs, only it's still supported (GW left theirs to die long ago) and it doesn't suck like the GW ones did.

It's perfectly legit, and free to try (although it has a 3 squad limit in free mode)... Since you seem to just want to calculate points, that ought to serve your purposes. The full mode is a highly recommended purchase though - it's really the quickest and simplest way to put together an army list, IMHO.

As he said though, so long as you've got your codex, it's easy to add up the points for a given unit - everything's listed right there in black and white, no special knowledge of 40K rules required.

EDIT: By the way, Lost, love the avatar! Iron Man just looks positively evil in that blue and steel scheme... Almost a preview of how War Machine might look, once they get around to putting him in one of the movies!

Well, if you have the codex its easy enough to knock together an excel spreadsheet that does the job, just have your columns set out like this

    Unit . . . . . Number. . . . . .Cost. . . . . .Equipment. . . . . Equipment cost. . . . . (Number*Cost)+Equipment cost

So, for your commissar w/fist example, you would have

    Commissar. . . .1. . . . xx. . . .Powerfist. . . .yy. . . . (1*xx)+yy

With the one on the end being your total.

You have to put the points in yourself but apart from that, its pretty simple.

The name refers to facial hair, not playing style.

I made this web-based calculator for Warmachine & Hordes:

    Warmachine & Hordes Army Builder

I'd like to do something similar for Warhammer but don't have access to the stats. If anyone could help me get stats for the models in a complete digital form I might be able to convert it to an XML file that would be compatible with what I've already done in the above link. Just a thought.

What is wrong with pen and paper.
Most mobile phones have a built in calculator.

Grab your codex and away you go!

If you can't afford pencil and paper. use a text, word or excel doc.

    I currently play:
    Doom Eagle Space Marines
    Hive Fleet Omega Tyranids
