Default Fantasy warbands for 40k?

Anyone ever play with the amazing warband rules for fantasy... well combat patrol just doesnt go in depth enough. It needs a character damage chart and character archtypes like warbands did, and some better combat patrol missions that are decided on a dice roll with experence gaining and perminent squad member dieing on a 1, or 2....
wouldnt that be nice for 40k

Try necromunda, or inquisitor....

Necromunda, using that as a points base should be able to allow you to estimate quite closely the points of marines, gaunts, guardians, etc, and then the game system is in-depth enough to cover what you're looking for methinks! Hell, I even love the weapon stats from that era (Damage rolls? D6 + D3 + 2.... riiight)

You go any further with this, I'll keep watching!

I tried out a similar idea for a campaign with the recruitment side of things. I'm assuming you are wanting a sort of campaign side if you are gaining experience etc.
As said Necromunda is a good start but simply taking the warband after rules with some tweaks to fit in with 40k would work.

Do think of limiting certain items, magic items obviously dont exist but an updatd wargear list may be appropriate, eg. power weapons limited fists rare etc

Just had a flick through and don't think there woudl be much of a problem with it.
Interestingness will also be following this.

Hope that helps

Well, if you're into pen & paper RPGs, you could check out Dark Heresy. Its setup exactly so that you can use 40k minis on the tabletop for combat.

And the damage system is very brutal.

I attempted to do this, I called it Imperial Guard company. It was set up to be a long term campaign using 2 imperial guard armys that use different combat doctrines. You started out with the amount of experience you wanted your officer to have, then bought men indiviually. I never got too far with it (I got basics like stealthy, shooty, veteran, abhuman, regiments) and i was able to play a 3 game campaign sucessfully. I could send you what I did finish if you want something to get ideas from

I did this all before i found Necromunda, now i dont really see the need to create my own game when it is pretty much already done.

Default 40k warbands

Ive been tweaking the rules to make it good for a nice home game but im having trouble coming up with good 40k arch-types that arnt over powered, and mabee a vehicle character damage chart for permanent damage to vehicles on a d66 instead of losing them on a 1 or a 2, for example like damage to wireing -1 movement on a 33-37 or on an 11 you get salvaged with complete comback +15 exp

just take whatever is on the Necromunda damage table and translate it over to a vehicle.

So horrible scarring could become vehicle from hell "the vehicle is rusted and battered from countless battles and is an imposing sight to all" targets get -1 leadership from tank shocks

Its easy and you know its balanced, its from GW

There used to be trial vehicle rules for Necromunda on the Specialist Games website. Don't know if they were transferred to the new site, though.

*goes to find out*

EDIT: they weren't. Damn you GW!

and ive played a couple games with my tweaked rules... i need a modifed exp chart 100pts is way to much for a solid win when your only playing with 250pts and about 20 models
