I have a fully fledged Apocalypse game coming up and I am very much considering the Masters of the Chapter formation for my Black Templar army (I'm using them as well as Eldar, Necrons and hell, even some Sisters of Battle) and I was wondering exactly how it works. Helbrecht is obvious since his rules are clearly written as well as points value etc, but what about the others? It says that each of them uses the rules for the Space Marine Commander (or Marshal in the BT case) so does that mean I can kit them out however I want? Obviously WYSIWYG will play a part, but I want to be sure I get the rules right so I don't get declared a big cheater as soon as I plop them on the table (or floor as the case will be).
Many thanks for any useful information anyone can provide.
I think Realitycheque has it right here, Ive used the masters of the chapter strategem with my custom converted chapter master, an AoBR captain, the games day miniture with the thunder hammer, my friends Sicarius, and his captain from the plastic kit, all equipped very differently.
Ask me about the Black and White Space Marine on the Black and White Bike!!!
The fluff diagram says what wargear they have, but the rules for them do not state that they have to be equipped in any particular way.
This of course means you could give them all Thunder Hammers and Storm Shields should you choose to
Thanks for the help guys. I thought it was just whatever Marshal set up I wanted, so if that's the general consensus between people then great! I've elected to give most of them Plasma Pistols and Power Weapons, so I can unleash unholy hell in CC as well as blast obnoxious high Toughness enemies/tanks in the face should they get too close. Though I'm still keeping the Thunderhammer guy with the TH and one has a Powerfist. Can't be left without some High Strength CC goodness. Though costly on the points, I forsee good things for them in the fight.
be carful not to trip when playing "floor"hammer you don't want to crush the precious minis :
i say kit the masters with any thing you please, if was going to do that formation i'll give jump packs and other crazy wargear

This is the second time random spam seems to have appeared in a thread I am subscribed to. Are we under spam attack? Quickly, alert the Chapter MAsters!
Whilst I am here, I played my Apoc game but we only lasted 2 turns because it took so damn long (Nearly 6 hours in total). The Chapter Masters kicked ass and took names, losing only a sinlge unnamed grunt in the attacks. Having Helbrecht, 4 Marshals and 10 Space Marines who can all reroll hits in CC is ridiculously amazing. Though a lot of the thanks can go towards my Tau allies who blew up anything that could conceivably destroy them with a single battlecannon or whatnot. It was good fun, though we had to give up since we payed in the living room. 18k a side points games were parhaps a bit ambitious, especially for a day.
Well done mate, nice to see that a MotC had the desired impact! What did they mince?
I'd love to take them myself, I even bought the box and I have tons of captains... I'm just paranoid about the chance of a rogue AP3 Ordanance Blast killing em all... I know my Captains would all have Iron Halos though, so I suppose it could work nicely if properly executed!
18k is a bit mad unless you have a lot of time to play the game (or can ideally keep the game setup overnight). My biggest game thus far was 5k a side (there's a link to batrep in my sig), I do plan on trying a bigger once next time I play Apoc though, after all I have nearly 20k of Imperial Forces in total so I want to get to use more of them next time!
I can't recall them killing much in the way of highly dangerous stuff, but it did mangle a horde of zombies. Stupid nurgle undead scum!
I kitted most of them all out with Artificer Armour since BT can only take one Iron Halo (Helbrect took it for himself, the git) so AP3 wouldn't be as much of a threat, but if the Orks inthe enemy side actually used his Stompa to shoot them with it's stupid giant guns, I would fear for their safety. Instead he opted to shoot a Fire Warrior squad that was closer. My Venerable Dreadnough punched it in the side and damaged its main weapon heh.
Can't you give them as many Iron Halos as you want in Apocalypse? I thought wargear restrictions went out the window, though I'm not sure.
Sounds like your opponent was having some target priority issues!
