    Warhammer 40k Quick Reference/Cheat Sheet

Does anyone has a quick reference/cheat sheet that you have used in battles? I am looking for a basic one to setup for my son who just recently got into Warhammer 40k.

He needs one on how to learn to roll for shooting and assault phrase. He keeps going back to the rules and rereading the rules every time it is his turn.

GW online has many reference sheets, i think one for each team and a 5th ed rulebook sheet that will help with rolling and turns, here's a link to these:

    hope this helps

Some of those army specific sheets are out of date or just plain missing. Recent releases of Blood Angels, Dark Eldar, Grey Knights and Necrons aren't there. Probably phasing out giving stuff away for free.

The alternative is to either add sticky label tabs to the tops of the relevant pages at the back of the rulebook (some players do with second-hand books), slot sheets of paper between the pages for quick turning or if you have the space, leave the book open at the middle of the useful pages so you can get to them quickly. I'm looking at page 301/302 but the preceding pages are quite useful for quick stat lookups, if you know your wargear already. Using the rulebook for reference is a good idea for new players as there are many cheating twats out there who will lie, cheat and BS their way through a game in the hope that nobody checks the rulebook . On the other hand, if the new player needs to be prompted every two minutes then he needs to get more games in, listen to what he's being taught and learn to take in new information!

I've come across some nightmare players (usually teenagers 13-15) who refuse to listen, make up their own rules (mostly to try to BS), make the same mistakes repeatedly for months and generally give up after everyone refuses to play them. I hope that this advice isn't taken too seriously, but some of the points I have made are taken from personal experience and can become pet hates for others. Getting into good habits early on is great for everyone that the new player will encounter. You may also find the experiences of other vets quite similar. I am sure your son will get the hang of it eventually. It all shows that he doesn't want to lose by looking stupid, which is an encouraging start!

yeah i agree with above, using sticky notes in your rulebook is great for finding the more used pages.

I know this might be a bit late and not sure if you still need help but as a former GW employee the starter courses are always good because it helps him learn but also gets him socialising with other players!!
But the trick to it is keep it simple,
give him one unit of tactical space marines (or equivilent for his army) against one troops choice from another army.
on a single A4 page you have the "to hit2 and "to wound" charts found at the back of the rule book
also put in there the weapon portfolio for bolters so he know the range.

Play through a single shooting pahse with him going step by step.
play through it again a few times each time encourage him not to use the sheet.
even after 1 hour it will sink it.
And to keep it interesting make up a story as to why you are attacking them, and start off with no cover or anything and slowly add in different rules.
do something similar for assault phase.
    hope this helps and
    Good luck

    @adamwelton
I agree with you mate. And it can be painful to watch. And drive you made when you trying to help me and they dont listen.

    Anyway...
There is a a double side page in the 40k rulebook for reference with the To hit/wound chart, movement of vehichles and what they can shoot etc...
And if it some mroe fo the specific things, and if you got time on your hand why not try draw one up your self
As it not too tricky, by looks of it, as I have never done one

Ah, I remember the good old days when GFW provided a perforated pull-out reference sheet in the BRB. Now it's our problem. Cheap buggers.
