    6e Psychic Powers

With Psykers on a rise it seems important that we spend more time choosing our psychic powers and boosting our psychic defences.
I've only used a couple of the lores but diination has really stuck out to me,
re rolls to hit, re roll passed armour saves, ignore cover, pyromancy seems pretty reliable- a couple of shooting powers a nice buff and a good defensive power, and telekinesis, albeit powerful, seems a bit more random, telekine dome is fantastic though,

I'd like to hear some people opinions, thoughts and idea's on the current psyker situation.
What builds will become more powerful?
how can we shutdown psykers? and how can we use them to maximise our armies effectiveness.

Shrug, I'm really liking Divination for my Deathwing, though I haven't tried the other Lores yet for my Deathwing (mainly as I forgot what they were).

Guaranteed Prescience is boss on a bunch of ws4 thunderhammers and lightning claws since hitting is always the hardest part of combat for them, especially when combatting other marines.

With Deathwing, I've found that usually the best general tactic is to blob up and travel around en masse, or at least travel in packs. Either way, it prevents your opponent for being able to gang up on your squads one at a time w/o being counter-charged by at least 2-3 other squads. That said, the Librarian (or better yet Ezekiel) right in the middle of a large group will easily protect most of the 'Wing.

As an eldar player and only having played 6 games under the new rules, 4 vs tyranids 2 vs marines I like the new way psychic powers work. i normally take eldrad and another farseer as i have an uthwe army. Taking the primaris power from divination and three powers from telepathy on eldrad, also taking gide and doom on the other fareser kept me competative in all the games against the tyranids. These were 2k lists with 7 MC in the tyranid lists. Prescience is a bargain re-rolling all to hit rolls so both for shooting and CC. Eldrad has managed to get invisibility and dominate in all of the games. Invisibility enabled my small seer council of 5 warlocks and eldrad to kill a flying hive tyrant on the turn it charged as it was then WS1 and dominate seriously disrupted the units of gaunts movement. It was also usefull that enemy psykers roll three D6 for their psychic tests aqnd suffer perils on a 12+ and the eldar roll three D6 and pick the lowest and have the only psychic protection against perils. This made all of my oponents very very cautious about using psychic powers whilst i had free rain. I am very impressed with the new rules and powers and they place the eldar back in line with their background fluff as some of the most powerfull psykers in 40K.

I've only played against the necrons in the new rules, and they've never taken gloomprism spiders. So I've had a free reign with psychic powers most of my games.
Coteaz has gone from a mediocre character to a boss. he's used telekinesis most games and some of those powers are brutal. I've used the re-roll all 6's on some wraiths and some deathmarks and it totally nullified them as a threat (especially overwatch) and Divinations re-roll successful saves saw me wiping out one unit a turn.

biomancy seems like it could turn a blood angels librarian into a close combat killing machine.
I think we'll see a lot of allied farseers with RoWarding.

Dark Angels can take Divination? I may have to start playing them since my space marines can't. I really like the idea of a allied Dark Angels Libby using Divination on my Sternguard.

Depends on how important that power is to you. Prescience is about the only reason to take a Dark Angel Librarian, as they lost the old tablewide hood.

The basic DA Libby is still Ld9 though, but for +55pts you can take Ezekiel for Ld10.
And both can know up to 2 spells, but are only Mastery Level 1 (edit: Ezekiel knows 3 powers, but still lvl1: a real wtf for Ezekiel, Grand Master of Librarians) so you'll rarely get to use the other spell or Deny the Witch on better than a 5+ w/ your 6" hood.

Sure, there are other powers in the Lores, but with random generation, you can only really count on the Primaris Power and Prescience is about the best of the 4 available.

I agree with that, however since the Dark Angels are getting redone soon, I will probably wait and then pick up the new book. Then see if I want to ally them.

Yeah even with low level mastery ezekiel is back on the table. He might not be able to cast that much or use traitors bane at the same time but that little leather bound book of his is golden in addition to his casting.

while some of the powers for chaos (telekinesis, telepathy, and pyromancy) are cool, the randomness means that you can expect to get a meh power. the strongest power for two of the disciplines is not really as good as bolt of change, and nothing really can compete with lash. so this means that despite all the new choices i still run lash. the random mechanic is not bad, it's just that the powers are really not that great to justify taking the chance.

with the ability to place fortifications and shrines to chaos on the table the competition is getting pretty stiff in order to make it on my list in this edition.
furthermore, the fact that perils of the warp does not allow any type of save whatsoever is a big deterrent to running aspiring sorcerors, i.e. thousand sons.

this brings to light a recurring problem i've seen in 40k design. there are too many units that are neat on paper but not really ever worth the points to put on the table.
if i'm going to play something random, it better damn well be fun.
I love the smell of promethium in the morning.
