    Eldar Specialties Summary Tactica

Eldar Specialties Summary Tactica – by Kaerynthis

Heiromyo wrote a very comprehensive Eldar Tactica that mentioned a good balanced army should have an equal amount of Anti-Tank, Anti-Infantry, and Mobility. Since the Eldar unit selection is so varied and complex, I decided to write this “Summary/Tactica” to help myself and any other new Eldar players to explore ALL the options that they have to do one of the three tasks mentioned above. It is sort of a "re-arrangement" of Heiromyo's tactica, but should help newer Eldar players pick out the units they want to use in an army. I broke Anti-Tank and Anti-Infantry down to light and heavy vehicles/Infantry/MCs for a more complete summary.

Just to note, I am a complete n00b to the Eldar (just started 5 days ago), and all the knowledge below comes from reading Heiromyo's tactica, reading over 50 threads here on LO and other sites, and reading the codex. I may have over-simplified some of the things here (like not including specific Exarch weapons or powers), but that can be fixed once I know the Eldar better and from other users' comments.

Please feel free to comment and I’ll add to this list and hopefully make it complete in the near future!

    Legend:
    (HS) – Heavy Support
    (E) – Elite
    (T) – Troop
    (FA) – Fast Attack
    (HQ) – HQ

    Common Abbreviations:
    BL – Bright Lance
    SC – Star Cannon
    SL – Scatter Laser
    EML – Eldar Missile Launcher
    SS – Singing Spears
    PL – Pulse Laser
    TL – Twin-Linked
    Sh – Shuriken weapons

    Anti-Heavy Vehicles (AV 12+):

For the AV 12, 13, and 14 tanks, you need big firepower, or some way to maneuver behind the tanks to shoot at their weaker side (if they have a weaker side). For low BS troops, like Guardians and War Walkers, use a weapon with more shots, like Pulse Laser or TL things. Otherwise, make sure the BS is at least 4 for the one shot deals like BL and EML.

    - (HS) Falcon with Pulse Laser and Star Cannon
    - (HS) Fire Prism
    - (HS) Support Weapon Battery (Vibro Cannon, D-Cannon)
    - (HS) Wraith Lord with Bright Lance and/or Eldar Missile Launcher
    - (HS) War Walkers with BL or EML (not advisable, unless you just have a one-shot Walker)
    - (HQ) Farseer & Warlocks with Singing Spears
    - (E) Fire Dragons in Wave Serpent
    - (E) Harlequins with Harlequin Kiss
    - (E/T) Wraith Guard (Wraith Cannon)
    - (T) Guardian unit with a BL or EML platform (not as powerful, but you still get a shot)
    - (FA) Swooping Hawks (Haywire Grenade)
    - (FA) Vypers with BL, SC, EML
    - (Any) Wave Serpent with TL BL or TL EML

    Anti-Light Vehicles (AV 10-12):

Obviously anything in the Anti-Heavy Vehicles list will be able to take care of light vehicles, but you don’t want to “waste” points to take out light vehicles if other options are readily available. The following are options IN ADDITION to the ones listed above, and are more “point efficient”.

All of the Anti Heavy Vehicles weapons + the following:
    - (HS) Falcon with Pulse Laser and SL (more shots than SC)
    - (HS) Support Weapon Battery (Shadow Weaver)
    - (HS) Wraith Lord with SL, SC, Sh Cannon
    - (HS) War Walker with SL, SC, Sh Cannon
    - (T) Guardians with SL platforms
    - (T) Rangers/Pathfinders
    - (FA) Warp Spiders
    - (FA) Shining Spears
    - (FA) Vypers with SL, SC, Sh Cannon
    - (HQ) Some Phoenix Lords (if you really want to)
    - (Any) Wave Serpents with SC, SL, Sh Cannon

    Anti-Light Infantry (4-6+ saves):

There are many options to deal with light infantry, but most of them will depend on massive number of attacks, whether shooting or in CC. For Shooting, Scatter Laser and Shiruken Cannon are your best friends.

Shooting (use “Doom” Farseer power on the unit you’re shooting at, and “Guide” on the shooting unit)
    - (HS) Fire Prism
    - (HS) Falcon with Pulse Laser and SL or Sh C
    - (HS) Support Weapon Battery (Vibro Cannon)
    - (HS) Wraith Lord with SL or Sh Cannon
    - (HS) War Walker with SL or Sh Cannon
    - (T) Guardians with SL or Sh Cannon platforms
    - (T) Mass Dire Avenger Fire
    - (FA) Warp Spiders (Death Spinner, then Assault)
    - (FA) Vypers with SL, or Sh Cannon
    - (HQ) Farseer with Spirit Stone, Eldrich Storm, and Doom on himself
    - (Any) Wave Serpents with SC, or Sh Cannon

CC (use “Doom” Farseer power on the unit you’re shooting at, and maybe “Guide” on the shooting unit)
    - (E) Harlequins without Harlequin Kiss (for the mass number of attacks)
    - (E) Striking Scorpions
    - (T) Mass Storm Guardians
    - (T) Mass Dire Avengers assaulting after shooting
    - (FA) Swooping Hawk – Use the big pie plate grenade whenever deep striking, use Exarch’s Sky Leap to make it happen even more often

    Anti-Heavy Infantry (2-3+ saves):

Eldar arguably have the most units that can handle pesky 2+ and 3+ save marines and other heavy infantry. Anything with power weapons, rending, or AP2-3 are good. Of course, having massive amounts of high strength gun fire (Scatter Laser) or regular attacks (Striking Scorpions) plus the Farseer’s “Doom” and “Guide” Ability will help. I will leave those out and only include the weapons and units that can cause problems even without the number of attacks.

    Shooting:
    - (HS) Fire Prism
    - (HS) Falcon with Pulse Laser and SC (no BL/EML because of move and fire issues)
    - (HS) Support Weapon Battery (D-Cannon)
    - (HS) Wraith Lord with BL, SC, or EML
    - (HS) War Walker with BL, SC, or EML (keep these out of range of massive fire!)
    - (HS) Dark Reapers!
    - (E) 10 Fire Dragons in Wave Serpent
    - (E/T) Wraith Guard
    - (T) Ranger/Pathfinders (for the AP1 possibility)
    - (FA) Vypers with BL, SC, or EML
    - (Any) Wave Serpents with BL, SC, or EML

    CC:
    - (E) Harlequins with Harlequin Kiss
    - (E) Howling Banshees
    - (FA) Shining Spears (only for small units of Heavy Infantry, like Termies)
    - (HQ) Avatar
    - (HQ) Most Phoenix Lords

    Anti-MCs (TMCs, Wraithlord, Daemon Princes):

This section is separate from the “Heavy Infantry” because of their high toughness. Thus, units like Howling Banshees will have a very tough time dealing with them due to their low Strength. in this section, definitely the shooting units will be more effective, if they’re not busy dealing with tanks.

    - (E) 10 Fire Dragons in Wave Serpent
    - (E/T) Wraith Guard
    - (T) Ranger/Pathfinders (for the AP1 possibility)
    - (FA) Vypers with BL, SC, or EML
    - (Any) Wave Serpents with BL, SC, or EML

    CC:
    - (E) Harlequins with Harlequin Kiss
    - (HQ) Avatar
    - (HQ) Most Phoenix Lords

    Mobility:

These are very fast moving units that can take objectives, pester the foes, and just out-move the enemy and provide a constant threat to the enemy from all sides. Make sure you add Star Engines to these if you use them mostly for transport or want to move them into position faster.

    - (HS) Falcon
    - (HS) Fire Prism
    - (FA) Swooping Hawks
    - (FA) Warp Spiders
    - (FA) Vypers
    - (FA) Shining Spears
    - (Any) Wave Serpent carried units
    - (Any) All units with fleet of foot have the potential to move across the board quickly

Well, that’s it! Please comment so we can make this summary better!
