Default Apocalyptic Battle 9: Lastspartacus vs Svalene

Quote:
Lastspartacus's List

The Bombard Fortress Macragge Garrison

defence laser, 2 tl, AA, longbarrelled autocannons,
3 tl heavy bolters

4 fortress walls with tl longbarralled AA autocannons

2 heavy weapon mortar squads (3 mortars each)

2 landspeeders with heavy flamers, multi meltas

6 assault marines, sarge with fist, termy honors

marine captain with powersword and jump pack, frag/ krak nades, termy honors

datasheets used:

artillary company: found in the main apocalypse book, allows for any shot among the three basilisks to be a 'spotting' round, allowing the subsequent shots to be placed in exactly the same place if desired without rolling scatter to shoot.

defence laser: http://uk.games-workshop.com/apocaly...ence_laser.pdf

The fortress walls require some explanation, pics can be found on the forgeworld sight and sections appear to be roughly 8 inches long.

the wall, gate, and tower sections are bought seperately so can be placed wherever desired, as two walls strings, etc.
each wall section and the gate are AV14 and have four hits, a penetrating lowers these hits, so after four penetrating hits the wall section goes down. those manning the walls gain a 3+ cover save and are autowounded and must take armor saves if the section is destroyed.

a bunker completely removes a squad from being assaulted or targetted for shooting, but when that wall section goes down, whatever is in the bunker is auto-dead. the other wall sections have autocannons in addition to spaces for squads to stand.

the gate towers have 8 hits and a twin linked lascannon, the gate naturally opens and closes to allow friendly troop movement through it. any destroyed section creates 4+ save rubble.

The Plan is to deploy the crisis behind cover, as well as all the tanks (as much as possible) and infiltrate the kroot into cover, preferably close to the objectives. The stealth squads will infiltrate behind the kroot squads to provide supporting fire.I will keep the 2 twinlinked Fusion Blaster suits in deepstrike to deepstrike in the rear armour of enemy vehicles ( indirect fire vehicles if there are any). Once the game starts the kroots and Stealth will fire at the enemy infantry, weakening before the main guns come in action. The broadsides will move slowly, using their ASS to get line of sight towards vehicle, but not exposing them to too much return fire. The Hammerheads will drop pie plates on the enemy infantry, or fire at vehicles in certain situations. The missile pods crisis will remain pretty far back, using their assault move to remain hidden while firing at lighr vehicles. The rest of the Crisis and the Commanders will move forward (but not close enough to be in danger), firing their weapons on infantry or light vehicles. The plan is to have the Kroots and stealth hold the objectives long enough and weaken the enemy army enough for the crisis and Fire warrior squads to drive the enemy back.

*salutes svalene* now heres a good fight! two sides with very different armies but tons of firepower. My strategem of choice will again be the one that allows me to count the objective in my deployment zone as two objectives. Alternatively, if there is a good deal of forest cover on the board i would use the anti-plant bomb or whatever it is called, to get rid of alot of the forests and make a larger killing field. I will use the defence laser to target the furthest away units hugging the corners and hopefully force them into the middle/open.

The hammerheads and broadsides, while needing a 5+ to take a point off of a wall section, without question have enough combined firepower to bring down on average one or two sections of wall. But the return lascannon and missile fire will prove very telling so i doubt my opponent would put his assets out in the open, while my fast units could just as easily boost or jump or fleet to the objectives.

I can see there being a high chance of a tie in this game if my opponent hides until the end and then goes for the objectives, but i have the advantage of indirect fire pounding away, so i should have the firepower and staying power to win this match.

Well time is ticking on, and Svalene still hasn't posted her tactics. That said I have spoken to her at length on Chat about what she is planning to do.

Basically I think in this case the massed bombardment and that defense laser is going to mash up the skimmers, and the rest of LS gun-line has a nice platform to smash the rest.

LS biggest problem is taking one objective and contesting the other. A lot depends on terrain.

I don't think svalene is going to have enough terrain to hide enough of her army basically.

A fairly close battle but I just think svalene's army is going to be slowly dismantled over 5 turns. At the end LS will probably have enough power to seize one of the objectives and contest the other.

Can't really vote for this one. I want Sparty in a one on one, which is unfair for Sval who got in the middle of it =P

Post some tactics you silly Dark space elf! your lists has the power, but I don't know how you use it.

Ok,sorry for taking a long time to post my tactics lol.

So The stratagem i would use will be vital objective which i will use on the objective in my deployment zone, since sparty really has to few mobile units to hope to capture it. I Would deploy my army in this way: The hammerheads and broadsides between 48-72 inches of the defense laser (out of range of all his lascannons/missile launchers), my kroots deployed forward in cover near/on the objectives, my stealth suits deployed near the kroots behind the objectives, since we using 4th ed rule they'd be out of los if behind size 3 terrain, and i would keep all my crisis suits in reserve.

On the first few turns my kroots and stealth will do nothing apart from getting shot at, i expect them to take heavy losses, but i think that if they are in cover, they have the number to survive through 2-3 turns of shooting. I don't know whether sparty will fire his bassies on my kroots, or on my hammerheads and broadsides, but i don't think it would make a great difference.

Meanwhile my Broadsides and Hammerhead will fire continuously on the defense laser, with 11 railgun shots a turn it should be dead on turn 2,maybe turn 1 if i get a bit lucky. After they killed it they'll target wall sections and the hammerheads will move forward a bit.

And on turn 2 my crisis suits will start coming in from deepstrike, I will place them behind or on the sides of the bassies, Im sure i'll lose a few to bad scatter, but a good amount should make it safely and they will start killing all the bassies 1 by 1,even a plasma rifle has a decent chance of killing one.I'll also try to keep them in cover/out of los of the wall sections, i know i won't be able to do it with all of them but if im able to hide a few until the end of the game and i have last turn they could contest his vital objectives. And even if i can't hide any, he'll have to stop shooting at my army for a turn to take care of my suits.

In last 2 turns i expect sparty to try to grab or contest the objectives in the middle, but imo he has too few units for that job and i should be able to shoot them down easily.

So yea,that's my plan lol.

I just want to say I like both lists, and I think this would be a great battle to actually take a part in!

After much deliberation, I think Svalene's tactics are fairly sound, and thus, I vote for her. However, props to both of you on making great lists.

Neither side can really do a go-get-em type of tactic.

Sval's list looks better as far as gunlines go, and is more organised. Sparty's force is too mixed.
