With plasma the question is not will they kill themselves...its when will they kill themselves.
Take the plasma because thats what you need and the high strength low ap will help you turn the tide of battle...but don't expect long term longevity from a squad where everyone is tossing around plasma. Take your plasma shots at high value targets, get your kills, smile when your guys get trigger happy and paste their superheated guts all over the faces of their squadmates, and be happy knowing that those plasma guys more than made their points value back in enemy casualties.
