Basically your misunderstanding is the weapon destroyed result. Weapon destroyed means exactly that, a weapon on the vehicle is destroyed, that's a 4 on a glancing hit or a 2 on a penetrating hit. Vehicle destroyed (what you thought weapon destroyed was) still destroys the vehicle, that's a 6 on a glancing hit or a 4 or higher on a penetrating hit. So of course it isn't disabled by a weapon destroyed, as it's just a weapon, but it is still destroyed by a vehicle destroyed result. I hope that cleared that up.
