I've yet to see any games played at the gaming stores I haunt, but then again most of them are in the middle of campaigns. Additionally, the "Warhammer crowd" has to compete for space with Warmachine players, Mechwarrior/Battletech, and the horde of CCG folks. So there might be AI rocket jocks where I game; I just haven't seen a game of AI played at any of those locations. And it's new, so maybe it'll just be a matter of time.

As far as personal interest? Very much so, especially since I've read and re-read "Double Eagle" a gazillion times. AI could open up new possibilities for the campaigns our little band participates in; long range bombing missions behind enemy lines targeting industry or command and control, special missions to hit key bridges and whatnot, or gigantic air battles to secure 'air supremacy' over the battlefield. Each of the above could affect how the campaign as a whole progresses.

Hopefully it takes off. I've only ever seen Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Fantasy at my stomping grounds. I've never seen Epic. I think maybe one or two 'demo' games of Battlefleet Gothic, which I thought was cool, but again, just didn't take off with our group.
