Thanks. I think things like the bird, crow on her shoulder help too. The bird seems to be interested in what's in the bowl, looking for tid-bits etc. Because pets tend to follow thier owners movements this helps to show the movement in her from looking in the bowl to something getting her attention.
This picture is one I have seen before and you are right about the eyes. The man's lower eyelids are raised a little which shows in a way he isn't happy about someone looking at him. Or he has other things on his mind work, bills etc.
the woman looking near but past him seems to show she knows she has things to do. Housework etc. The overall immpression is one of we aren't about to go out for a shin-dig or general fun.
