The first one is good but seems to be a little plain for a model that size. The second one I think is an Apothecary, that thing on his hand looks like the Apothecary surgical tool thing they have. I think you're right about the first fellow- the 'bloke' as you called him (heh, silly Englishmen
).
On the second model, this model could have very easily had problems looking too busy, but as you said, the superb paint job and modeling shows no signs of intervention. It looks real good.
