This is my stab at a crazy special character, suggestions much needed and appreciated.
Wilhelm III "The Winged One"
As a young man Wilhelm had two great passions, warfare and flight. Having a family with conections, he easily gained the rank of captian and entered into many battles on countless and unnamed battlefields. He was always the first to the battle lines and has slain many foes. But, this only full-filled one of Wilhelm's passions. Even though he was of high rank, Wilhelm still lacked the money or position to afford the war-beasts of the Empire. So he set about on a quest to learn the art of flying unaided by beast. This led him to meet a pair of inventors who wished to give young Wilhelm his dreams.
Equipment: Handweapon, Pistol, Light Armor, Wings of the Alchemist, Talisman of Wilhelm I.
Wings of the Alchemist: These wonderful wings are the creation of two inventors, one an engineer and another an alchemist. Through unknown technology only known to these two, and magic, they give a man the ability of flight, but they can only bear so much weight. Wilhelm has the fly special rule.
Talisman of Wilhelm I: This talisman is an ancestral heirloom passed down from generation to generation. Thanks to it, Wilhelm has survived many encounters with foul beasts of all kinds. The Talisman of Wilhelm I confers a 5+ ward save to Wilhelm.
Wilhelm III takes up one Hero Choice in an Empire army.
What do you think, especially about the points? Maybe even the concept?
You could use teh Bird men of Catrazza as an example, they are e Dogs-of-War unit with a human-powered pair of wings. However, they certainly don;t want to engage in CC - you could say that if he is forced to engage in CC, then he loses his Flying ability? His wings would hamper him, and probably get torn-up
