So i was thinking, do those mighty chaos warriors actually sit down and paint their armour, and sew some nice banners before going into battle ?
Or do they bully Marauders into painting them ?
For slaanesh worshippers i can actually imagine that, the rest though ?
any thoughts on this ? =)
For all we know, the colour of their armour might impregnated into the metal at manufacture. That could be one way to justify a multitude of different colours, or even different shades of the one basic colour, in a single unit.
I dare say that some would take the time to "repaint" after battle, but I reckon it'd be slaves that would be more likely to do it.

Well i khorne's case im guessing all that red is just dried blood Nurgle is just rot on the armor. Tzeentch could be the armor glowing weird colors. I do see Slannesh warriros painting their armor making it as loud as possible.
If a Million Guardsmen die, that's a statistic. If one marine dies, that's a tragedy.
Most medieval armor was lacquered, if it was colored at all. For the warriors, I'm willing to bet that their armor is a gift from their Gods, and is therefore colored before they get it. It's likely quite permanent too.
Now Nurgle, I beleive that the armor is painted. I think that the chipped and rusted armor pleases the Father. Considering that I read an insert once where a Nurgle warrior was praising the rust on a weapon, I think that's how it'd go.
Slaanesh takes the best care of their armor. I don't even think it's as much about being "loud" as it is about being clean. They seem to favor lighter colors that would quickly muddy and tarnish without CONSTANT upkeep. I think that they take pride in that though, they spend so much time on looking beautiful and perfect. My army is painted in dark purples, nearly black, but their cloaks are all a pale flesh color. My Chosen are painted in white armor with blue/purple inking and golden trim. They've been described as "pretty" or "beautiful" by people who don't even play the game. That means they're doing their job: seducing people to love Slaanesh.
Khorne is certainly blood, and Tzeentch... another god-gifted thing, but i'm sure that they can magically alter the colors of their armor if they must.
