I've been thinking lately looking at all the new rules for war machines, I was wondering what everyone though was the most fearful warmachine/artillary is in the Game. Persoanlly i think it has to be the Choas Hellcannon, but of course everyone will have different views. I Invite everyone to give their views.
Surely people have some opinions of what war machine is the most feared?
Well I suppose I'm a bit biased as a TK player, but the Casket of souls definately gets my vote.
Although the main benefit to the TK player is actually in (both) the magic phases, the fact that it has the potential to decimate an opponents entire army and effectively win the game on the spot if you get lucky with the dice earns it instant respect. Actually, this doesn't happen nearly as often as some people tend to think, but you only need to be on the receiving end of it just *once* to realise that you never want that to happen again...
Because Sun Tzu would play Tomb Kings...
The casket is one of the scariest, if you consider it a war machine.
I have not yet faced an opponent that did not groan and throw up their hands upon seeing one of my warp lightning cannons. It does not need line of sight, can single out any target and shoots THROUGH any kind of building or soft cover without slowing down. Has an average range of 29 inches, average str of 6 and does d6 wounds. Loss of crew does not slow down it's firing, its protected by a ward save and it moves like a chariot. I've killed SO many monsters and generals with the thing it's not even funny.
Tomb Scorpion Kill Counter: Gotrek Gurnisson, Empire Cannon Crew=3, Blood Knights=2, Saurus Cavalry=5, Saurus Warriors=3, Razordons=3, Skink warriors=7, Jezzails=8, Poison Wind Globadiers=10, Warp Lightning Cannon=1
the warplightning wafflebob named sounds scary =x
i havent seen one in action lately so im going for another
The groundshaker, chaos dwarves cannon. Its not so much the point wether he hits my men or not, he makes everything nearby the hit move at half speed,
it cripples half my force every turn and it gets some rock lobber hits off on top of it.
so i say
death to all dwarfs!
Warchief Diggah o da Bloodmoon Squiggahs
I'd have to say the Tomb Kings SSC. It can often shoot twice per turn, and one wound means a panic check (often at -1Ld). Thats just plain nasty.
Other than that theres 2 Dwarf contraptions, the Organ Gun (keeps cavalry 24" away at all times) and the mighty ANVIL OF DOOM.
Current painting project: 2300 pts of Dwarfs in 5 weeks.
From a fluff perspective, I think it depends primarily on what factions face each other regularly, or have a 'mythology' about each other, to determine who is most feared.
I mean, the Tomb Kings' SSC is scary, but how often is it actually encountered by say, Lizardmen? Lizardmen would probably name the Skaven Warp Lightning Cannon or the DE Repeater Bolt Thrower as most feared.
Conversely, I'd imagine Imperial humans don't go up against Lizardmen very often, so the Engine of the Gods might not have much hold in their imagination. They might name the Hellcannon as the most feared siege weapon.
Having said that, if all the peoples in WFB had frequent contact with one another, I'd say the Hellcannon would probably get voted most feared, with SSC coming in a close second.
Lizardmen! Engine of The Gods. Muhahaha!
And remember, the Lizardmen got so powerfull relics under their temples that they don't want to use them because they are unsure if they can control them. So I'm sure the Lizardmen got the scariest war machine in the basement.
"We've run into scorpions the size of battle tanks. Three men died from Eyerot last week and I've sweated enough to fill a lake. Emperor help me, I love this place - it's just like home!" Captain Rock commenting on Varestus Prime.
Steamtank! It's mobile, causes everyone to flee and spells ricochet of it's hull like they where peas from a pea shooter.
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.
Voor alle nederlanders:
The Dutch Legion
The Hellcannon is pretty scary as not only is it a mean stone thrower but it's also a nasty unbreakable monster, not to mention it even has a misfire table that is potentially dangerous for both sides.
BEN DIESEL FTW!!!
