I have a love-hate relationship with the new Hydra model for my Druchii...
It looks neat, but it just doesn't strike the right terrifying note for me... SO with GW selling the old beastmasters (I wish they would do this for the cauldron hags, but that's another story), I've decided it may be worth my while to make a beast for them to be herding that isn't a hydra.
Thus far, the only things I can think of as a replacement for hydras would be young sea dragons that were coaxed onto land (similar to the Merwyrm from the old Lothern Sea Guard list in Storm of Chaos). Is there anything else any loremeisters out there can think of that would be a suitable substitute for a hydra?
so a land dragon of some kind?
I would think of some sort of evil looking turtle, don't they have those in their fleets?
I'm leaning towards a young helldrake or sea dragon. I'd not considered that the Sea Dragon could be a turtle...
My dark elf book is in the other room, but isn't it mentioned that they have giant turtles that they build castles ontop of their shells on?
Maybe a Stegadon sized Turtle that has an old "Empire War Wagon" tower on it, that is described as some sort of Dark Elf Wizard Tower on it.
