For the past few weeks i have been devising a fun way for all you talented fluff writers and up and comers to test yourselves and to pit your story telling abilities against one another.
... drum roll please.....
Let me introduce to you: Fluff Wars!! based on the concept of your basic votewar.
The basic concept is: The competitors will each be required to send a pm to the event organiser (EO - me unless someone else wants to run the event) listing their 3 preferred races (fluff wise). The tournament will then be run in rounds, with contestants facing off 1 on 1. An event will then be submitted to the 2 contestants by the EO, this could be any number of things, and will contain i) 1 race selected from each contestants preferred list, or ii) 2 races not contained in either preferred lists (just to keep things fresh). Each contestant will then be required to write a short story about the event in question, detailing conversations that took place etc... Contestants will have 1 week to submit their short story to the EO.
The story MUST be 1000 words or less, MUST contain a title, and MUST contain atleast 1 conversation between characters, it may be writen in ANY context, and from ANY perspective.
The voting system will differ from the original votewar system. Each voter will give each contestant a score between 1 and 5 based on their feelings towards the story. NOTE! A voter should not mark down a contestant because of i) lack of title ii) being more then the allowed 1000 words iii) not containing the required conversation, as these will be dealt with by the EO.
Example vote: (contestant 1) - 3/5 (contestant 2) - 2/5......(brief overview of thoughts)
If the submission does not have a title the EO will subtract 1 point off EACH vote for the contestant at fault. If a contestants story is longer than the allowed 1000 words, the EO will subtract 1 point off EACH vote for every 50 words over the first 1000 (note that the first subtraction will be at 1001 - 1050 words), 1 point will also be deducted if the contestant fails to write the required conversation.
Voting will be over a 98 hour period, at the end of which the points for each contestant will be tallied and an overall winner will be announced for each individual match. This will be a double elimination event, meaning if you lose your first match, you have a chance to sharpen your skills and comeback.
So this is my pitch, what do you think? is anyone interested? I intend to have it up and running in the next week or so if there is enough interest. Feel free to advertise this in your general threads, as the more contestants the better, ty.

This sounds like a great idea, though I doubt you could get 16 participants. I think that a Fluffhammer votewar should have a longer 'tactics' (writing) and voting period then a regular Theoryhammer Voteward though. Not everyone has time/ability to think of and write a 1000 word story every 96 hours, neither will many people have time to read them all.
I think that 1 week of writing and 4 days of voting would be about right.
Thank you for the feedback, and i think you are spot on, will edit now.
Hmm. This does sound interesting...
I think I'll throw my name in now. I'll not be sending off any PM's just yet, I might have a bit of a think about my races of choice first. All I really know about is Vampires, and even then I like to claim I don't know all that much because that's just the way I roll.
It might be a good idea if you could find someone else to run this, White-Lizard - it means you could enter too! I don't mean to put pressure on you or anything but who know, you might have more fun writing than tallying votes!
Now, I'm off to sharpen my quills and brush up on some fluff!* Tally-ho!
(*Most likely a filthy lie, but whatever)
This is a great idea!
I don't know how many takers you'll get here, and 1,000 words is roughly a page and a half of block text, single spaced, with a space between paragraphs. Proper conversation format of
will take up more space, but 1000 seems scant to me. Then again, I'm rather verbose- it would make it challenging.
Either way, I'll join as the 16th man. In other words, if you find yourself with an odd number and need to fill a spot, pm me and I'll jump in.
I'm busy with the arena, and I'm going to be opening the Fluffshop after that. I'm extremely interested in this challenge, but more from the standpoint of seeing what others can come up with, rather than jumping right into it myself.
Rep is awaiting you if this thing gets off the ground...
I would like to enter, but my problem is i have really good ideas, but just cant get them into plausable sentences.... But yes, i can honestly say i have no previous experience running anything of this kind, and am open to the idea of someone else running it.
Any ideas are great, i literally jotted this down off the top of my head, so if there are any suggestions such as word count etc.. then i would definately like to hear them.

I'd probably be interested in this I tend to be a quick writer but a slow researcher though. (I have a condition that makes reading off paper painful (sounds dumb, I know) so I can take a couple of days just to read an armybook - I've read most of them though)
Is there a central theme to the stories? What is the event or does that change with each round? Are pre-existing characters allowed or must all material be created specifically for this event? (ie, if based on personal armies can characters from that be used - or even are they expected to be used?)
Captain Sarathai - same boat, I'm a novelist, so look forward to a short challenge
May see if my boyfriend is interested, we're moving house so may be too hectic for him though.
Fantasy: Wood Elves, Dark Elves, Beastmen and Tomb Kings.
LotR: Misty Mountains and Rohan
I will almost certainly participate. I'll keep a close eye on this thread and the moment I see that it is actually happening and know the date I'll hop on and join in the action!
Honestly, since I'm a new member I think that this is a great way to make new friends on the forums.
Also: I love fluff, and I don't get much of it at the places I frequent. Most people think it's just silly but since I lose every time I play it's the only thing that keeps me coming back.
Ok so the event will be something like this: (bare with me as this could sound a little confusing or mixed up)
-The EO takes the preference lists of the 2 competitors, now, he may decide that the event will occur between 1) two different races, one selected from each preference list
2) the same race, common in both preference lists
3) Any race/s not listed on either list.
-The event could be pretty much anything.... The signing of a peace treaty between rival clans, a border skirmish, brunch in altdorf, pretty much anything whatsoever.
-Competitors get the basic plot, and can expand on it in anyway they see fit, and with whatever characters they deem necessary.
