Can someone please help me with dwarf fluff? I'm not really sure how to make any.
Well an explanation of what's wrong would be good, do you not now enough? Lost of the way a dwarf acts? Or you unsure on names?
More than "I need help" is required.
Everything. I don't really know anything about dwarves except that there is a big thing between engineers and none engineers. I didn't even know there was a lost way of the dwarf acts. I guess that would be how yee only used the fine arts of crossbows or something. As more the names theres a total blank.
Dwarf fluff for me in all has been hard to get. I mostly want to know the major keeps/halls of the dwarves and the major characters. Also knowing who their main god/leader is couldn't be bad.
Well the gods are in another topic in the dwarf forum, so Ill leave those. The leaders are kings, each hold has a royal line and thus a royal family. These rule that hold and some of the surrounding lands, just like a normal king. But all dwarfs answer to a single dwarf; the High King. The current being Thorgrim Grudgebearer, they are the representative of the gods. He carries one of the axes given to the first high king by Grimnir (but was made by Grungni), and sits upon the Throne of Power made by Grungni. The throne has the Rune of Azamar (Rune of Eternity) engraved in it, should the rune ever be lost then the dwarven race will be lost (or so it's said). He also carried the Great Book Of Grudges, this book holds every misdeed against his people. Written into the pages in the kings own blood these grudges will only be striken from the book when they are avenged (which is rarely), upon his head the Dragon Crow of Karaz - worn by the High King since Karaz-a-Karak was founded. He has the Cloak of Skaldor, the scale cloak of a great dragon slain by a previous king.
The major dwarf holds can be found on the map in the dwarf army book, the eldest being Karak Eight Peaks and the dwarf capital is Karaz-a-Karak. Barak Varn is the dwarf sea port and Karak a Kadrin is known as Slayer keep, home of the Slayer Kings. Many of the dwarf holds were overrun or destroyed during the Times of Woe or the Goblin Wars, earthquakes shook the world allowing the Greenskins and Skaven to invade the dwarf holds. Some are now home to infamous warlords ie Karak Ungor is now Red Eye Peak, home to the Red Eye goblin tribe.
Dwarfs don't take loss or shame likely, if they feel it's too much they take the Slayer Oath. This means they forget all family, friends and home; they shave their heads excpet for a single crest of hair and dye it orange. Taking up a weapon (usually a large axe) they go off into the world to find solace and absolution by dying at the hands of the biggest monster they can find. The keep of Karak a Kadrin is known as the Slayer Keep as it has the largest shrine to Grimnir there, here many slayers will travel to kneel before him statue and add his name to the list there.
Some dwarfs don't live in the mountains but moved down to the Empire after Sigmar saved High King Kurgaz Ironbeard form Orcs, here they live in cities and usually work as smithies. They taught the humans how to create armour and good swords, they also gave them the secrets to blackpowder (gun powder). But one group turned away from the ancestors and instead worship their own god Hasut, these are called Chaos Dwarfs (Zarr-Dawi- re: fire dwarfs). But these live a long way from the World Edge Mountains.
Characters are great kings from famous holds;
Ungrim Iornfist, the Slayer king - Rules over Karak Kadrin, unique in which he holds a duel oath - That of a king and that of a slayer. One of his forefathers took up the oath after loosing his son to greenskins, having no choice to seek honourable death. But his oath as king kept him from doing this, so instead of breaking either oath he turned the hold into the biggest shrine for Grimnir and gathering the slayers. His oath is past down through the years to each king till as such it can be fulfilled.
King Kazador of Karak Azur - Once a great and proud king but no more, he went out to war one time only to return home to find that orcs had broken through into the hold. They left the Kings son nailed to the throne shaved of his beard (a grave insult), prisoners were taken to Black Crag - it is unknown as to whether they still live or not. But King Kazador has oftered half of his entire treasurey to whoever brings them back, a quarter to whoever brings back their bodies and the pick of his treasures for whoever slays Gorfang.
Joseph Bugman - The famous brewer, all dwarfs love ale and his brands were the very best. But one day as he took his shipment of ale down the Reik to the Empire his brewery was attacked by goblins, the people slain and the ale drunk. When seeing this on his return Bugman swore revenge upon them, he gathered dwarf randers to him and now hunts goblins - he and his band can be found slipping out of forests to take on the foul beings.
Runelord Kragg the Grim - The best Runelord of the ages, Kragg is renound for him items. He resides in the forges of Karaz-a-Karak, many come to study under the great lord.
Gotrek and Felix - Gotrek Gurnisson is the least successful slayer known, he just can't die. Weilding an axe believed to be the lost axe of Grimnir he has faced everything the world throws at him but lives. Felix Jaegar is his human henchman. or his blood brother, Gotrek saved Felix from being slain due to his starting the Altdorf Tax Riots, then in a drunken act Felix swore to follow the dwarf wherever he went and record his death in an epic poem.
Burlock Damnisson - The master Engineer of the Engineer's Guild, once a young dwarf who wanted fame. He created experimental machinery that failed to work and one blew up and took his arm off as well as damaging the guilds halls itself, threatened with being kicked out Burlock became a model engineer. He made himself a metal arm that was superior to all his flesh one.
(Thorek Ironbrow and King Alrik Ranulfsson can be found in the current dwarf army book)
5th & 6th Edition Dwarf books
Stone and Steel - WHRP source book (Hogshead publishing, but is now back unde GW control and is most likely very hard to find).
Go read Egil's saga or Njal's saga for inspiration. The Dwarfs are vikings so you should write it in the tradition of the Icelandic sagas.
“Cry ‘Havoc’ and let slip the dogs of war! - Julius Caesar, Act III, Scene I
Although burning people alive in their houses doesn't appear in any of the dwarf fluff (love Njal's saga), Icelandic saga's would be the right way to go if you're interested in writing fluff for your hold / army.
Even the classic Beowulf would be great for some inspiration there I guess.
The iron crowned is getting closer,
Swings his hammer down on him,
Like a thunderstorm he's crushing,
Down the Noldor's proudest king.
Under my foot, so hopeless it seems.
You've troubled my day, now feel the pain.
