Here is my little fluff behind my army and little kingdom Im making. Im changeing up the WarHammer plot of course.
In the North West most part of Norsca lies the grand city-tribe of Troy. Their the Tribes of Troy own most of the land in the north west sector and much of the coast lines around to the first mountain range. They are primarily tribes of mortals when it comes to war. Rarely having demons within their ranks.
Yet rumor has it on conquests some of the Chieftens have found a holy grail of demonic power on recent raids. The demonic blood which is suppossed to be in it will infuse the drinker with the powers of a demons
Yet that is just a rumor and as for now no one knows if there are demon-chiefs in the lands of Troy.
So, Troy, a great empire in the north west area of Norsca. They are trapped by a small mountain range from the rest of the North and few jounry across or care to sail towards them incase of angering other tribes to attempt to attack. Only in times of great Chaotic crusades does the armies of Troy assemble to join the newest lord of the end times in a quest to conqueror the world.
So how does such a secluded kingdom survive? How does a place live with its main outside connections being through when the hordes of chaos fully unite to destroy? They survive by fishing and harvesting the vast forests of the area. Hunting and gathering, farms are rare in these cold lands. Yet these past few years the fish have not been as fufilling as before. The forests get only smaller and more dangerous and the mountains seem to only grow. It is time for a new way of life. In a gamble the current leader of Troy, I, Jacaran (yep thats me.) embarks the hordes upon our long boats to try and explore out new lands.
Its quite a gamble to pack up most of the army to risk it in conquests of raids. Yet what else is their to do? Hike the mountains, survive what is their? Or land in another tribes lands, or discover a whole new world of riches. These are Troys options, we are giving exploration our first shot.
Ships have been going out the past year in bands. Heading North, far West and to the weak men of the south. The Northern Journies have had little succes. Finding only death and bad luck. Losing men and good leaders in the North I promoted a succesful merkismathr (a standard bearer if my source is right) to lead some final expeditions. He sent out with 20 ships on a last ditch effort. Returning on a makeshift boat alone. In his row boat was a chest full of riches and some pigs. He told of a crazed journy where he faced demons of other gods, mad tribes, sorcerors crew mutinies. He went through death and back again by the sounds. He was clearly a gifted man.
Cary also was curious, always ready to try things. He was clever and sneaky. Dishonest if he had too. Yet hes shown much loyalty despite his dishonesty. So he is now my standard bearer in my new conquest ideas. Hes just the man I need for a dangerous trip. Most say my new plan is maddness, yet Im adamant when I say its what we must do.
What is my new conquest some wonder? Well my trusty stallari Kimmy has returned with a highly succesful journy to the far wast. Discovering lands of Elves. Even an Island, just awaiting to be blockaded and raided.
So Ive set out, with a handsome number of ships for one journy. There I will go to the lands of the Elves and raid them of all they have got. In the name of many gods as to Khorne, Tzeentch, Odin (uh, a local god. ) I will conqueror!
Yet Im not setting all my armies to milk the lands of the Elves. Im also sending forces to handle the cowardly realms of Bretonnia and the Empire. If word is right, Bretonnia has many beautiful stained glass windows that would look great in my Castle.
-Jacaran, King of Troy A.T. 889 (After Tzeentch!)
Ok. Im gonna re right this. I kind of mumbled this out in my head and typed what came to mind. Im gonna try and re do it like a stressful boat journal entry as Im worried on the state of Troy and go through the events in my head of how the forest choppings and fish go down. All try and convince myself as I write in my journal that raids are the only way to survive now. Then all go over past raids as in my mind I scroll through the history. Then all notice I should use Cary as a marshal in my new conquest thats bound to work. The journal will end with me being confident about my raids, as I said in the name of the many gods I shall conqueror.
Thats the plot behind my army. A small kingdom known as Troy (I love that name) is going downhill and the stressed ruler goes out with strong armies to raid and pillage wealth back into Troy. If you look on the map of the WarHammer world, In Norsca the way north west mountain range is the border of Troy. My little kingdom is in thodr 3 little peninsula things.
EDIT: I read a bit and already I think its confusing. Its like I do speak some old english dialogue at times. All re-write most of it tommorow and edit it up so its a nice journal entry. All then update it based on battles and stuff or anything else I want to include. All for the purposes of getting me pumped about my all mortal viking army ideas and to amuse me!

I nice idea but needs some amendments and fleshing out.
For instance you mention that the city survives on foraging and hunting, but no one who forages and hunts primarily can stay in one place they have to move with the seasons.
The other thing is how big is this navy to be able to raid Brettonia, the Empire and blockade the High Elves into submission all at once, (a feat even the Dark Elves failed).

...who landed on the shores of Ulthuan at the head of a glorified 'fleet' of rafts that I wouldn't trust to keep me afloat in a park fountain.Originally Posted by Lady Bastet
Divine Intervention, excessive luck, distraction or misfortune on the side of the High Elves, an abundance of skill on the side of the Norse men, and a number of other outside factors can be invented to help explain away why Chaos barbarians managed to make it to an island fortress that the defenders probably thought safe from, let's say, goblins. Even really really good goblins.
Yes well the issue for me here is that while Grom the Paunch did cause the High Elves (especially Eltharion) his fleet of rafts as you put it.
However said fleet of rafts was ridiculous in size and most importantly it made a one-way trip (no doubt losing several ships in the process- but you know how Greenskins are with numbers) as oppose to making a return journey.
Thats not to say its impossible, just that its a really bad idea on a par with exploring Athel Loren or tomb robbing in Khemri.

Bad idea, most definitely. Tell that to Grom.
