    Arnhiem

Does anyone know any details about this city. It isn't mentioned in the codex anywhere except on the map. I did a search and didn't find anything.

Which codex are you thinking of? There's a real place called Arnheim - in Germany, I believe. There was a famously tough battle there in WW2. I doubt even GW would have put it into 40k without altering the name a bit.

    ARMY BOOK not Codex!

Arnhelm or Arnheim as its also known, is not mentioned in the army book because its not a Dark Elf City but an extremely well defended High Elf garrison.

It has suprisingly little background influence in offical background, though its probably where most of the High Elf counter attacks are launched from.

Where is this printed if not in the Dark Elves Codex, err, Army Book. (Why did 40K get the better word? And why can't we share it?)

The 6th edition High Elf shows Arnheim/Arnhelm as High Elf territory but anymore than that requires one to look back at the background of 4th and 5th edition.

While the "propaganda" styles of both High Elf and Dark Elf books was cool it has needlessly confused people in places.

GW may have taken the name from a town in Holland where the 9th and 10th panzer divisions manhandled the British 1st airborne during WWII

    the town is called Arnhem

And now a pointless quote(s) from "A Bridge too far".

Here's my favorite quote from the 1977 film "A Bridge too far." of which a pivotal point was the British paratroopers doomed defence of Arnheim bridge.

Surrounded on almost all sides, cut off from communications with their headquarters, outnumbered and out of ammo.

Major Harry Carlyle: [an SS officer is approaching under a flag of truce] Rather interesting development, sir.

Major Harry Carlyle: [to the German] That's far enough!

Major Harry Carlyle: We can hear you from there!

SS Panzer Officer: My general says there is no point in continuing this fighting! He wishes to discuss terms of a surrender!

Major Harry Carlyle: Shall I answer him, sir?

Lt. Col. John Frost: Tell him to go to hell.

Major Harry Carlyle: We haven't the proper facilities to take you all prisoner! Sorry!

SS Panzer Officer: [German officer looks confused] What?

Major Harry Carlyle: We'd like to, but we can't accept your surrender! Was there anything else?

Lt. Col. John Frost: [German officer walks off] Well; that's that.

SS Panzer Officer: [in German] They rejected our surrender offer. What are your orders, Herr General?

Lt. General Bittrich: [in German] Flatten Arnhem.

    Sorry. Had to do it.
