Ogre Kingdom Army List
Making a competetive 500 point list of Ogres is very challenging. Their units are so expensive, that your army, no matter what units you choose, you'll end up with a very small force. That being said, my first choice for my army was a unit of 4 Iron Guts with a bellower and a standard bearer, these guys are rock solid, and won't go anywhere. My next choice was a unit of 3 Ogre Bulls with iron fists, I also added a bellower. For my hero choice I had a tough time choosing between a Butcher and a Bruiser. In the end I chose the Butcher because I figured the extra dispell dice would be really helpful against Vampire Counts. Bullgorger would also change wounding on 3's to wounding on 2's. Fantastic! With only two units, I can't be to brilliant with my tactics. Basically the idea is to smash everything as quickely as possible.
Vampire Counts List
When I play small games with my Vampire Counts I like to use two level one Necromancers. I prefer this option over one level two Necromancer. In my opinion this choice will give me more power in the magic phase. My next choice was two units of 20 zombies. These wil be the center of my army. I then threw in a unit of 5 dire wolves, these will hopefully run up the flank of the Ogre army and sway the combat with some extra attacks and a flank bonus. At this point I had 80 points left. Perfect! I added 10 Ghouls. My plan is to tie up his expensive ogres with my zombies, and to raise zombies into them faster then the ogres can kill them. The ghouls will hopefully be my secret weapon, 10 poisened attacks will hopefully kill enough ogres to cause a panic test.
20 Zombies A-120
20 Zombies B-120
VC Turn 1
Movement: Everything marches 8 inches forward
Magic: My first necromancer attemps to cast Innovocation of Nehek on a 3+, it casts on a 7, but is dispelled on an 8. No!
My second necromancer attemps to cast Innovocation of Nehek on a 3+, it casts on a 12. Irresistible force! Wo0o0o0o0o0!!! I rolled a 1.....
Ogre Turn 1
Movement: Everything marches 8 inches forward
Bonecrusher on Dire wolves fails
Bonecrusher casted on a 3, double 1's to dispel. 10 hits! 1 wound....
Braingobbler on Ghouls, fails.
VC Turn 2
Movement: Everything except the Dire wolves marchers forward to within an inch of the ogres. The Dire wolves wheel to face the ogre bulls.
Magic: My first Necromancer attempts to cast Innovocation of Nehek on a 7+ this turn. I rolled a 9, and he rolled an 8. 7 more zombies on Zombie unit A!
My second Necromancer also tried to cast Innovocation of Nehek on a 7+, rolled a 7. 6 more Zombie on Zombie unit B!
Ogre turn 2
Movement: Ironguts charge Zombie unit A. Bulls charge Zombie unit B. wo0o0o0
Magic: Three attemps to cast bull gorger proves succesful when he finally rolls double ones.
They squash 7 zombies
And then another 3 die from losing combat
They pulverize 8 Zombies
The butcher kills 2 more
And 5 die from losing combat
VC Turn 3
Movement: Dire wolve charge bulls, Ghouls charge Iron guts
Magic: My first Necromancer attemps and fails to cast Innovocation of Nehek on Zombie unit A
My second Necromancer attemps and succeeds to cast Innovocation of Nehek. Yes! But it's dispelled. No! By one point!
Dire wolves fail to kill anything
Bulls don't do as well as last turn and only kill 4 Zombies
The butcher is hungry for rotten meat and kills 3 more
Another 6 die from losing combat. Zombie unit B is WIPED OUT! wo0o0o0o0!
Ghouls wound an ogre twice! Finally some damage against those fattys.
Guts kill 8 zombies, and then another 4 die from losing combat.
Ghouls fail leadership and flee 3"
Ogre turn 3:
Bulls annihilate wolves
Guts kill all of the remaing zombies in Zombie unit B.
They overun into the two Necromancer and smash them both into the grounded.
Ogre kingdom conclusion thoughts:
I killed 420 points of the VC's army, and only lost two wounds! What could I be upset about? Well, looking back to my army selection I think the Iron guts were a complete waste. Strength 6, and heavy armor were a complete waste of points against zombies. And infact, the bulls preformed much better then the more expensive bulls!
Vampire counts conclustion thoughts:
Blahh... Well besides losing? Looking back to my army list I think I would have chosen more ghouls, they're the only thing that did any damage to those damn ogres. I also think I shouldn't have marched forward so quickely, an extra turn of Innovocations of Nehek wouldn't have hurt. Speaking of Innovocations of Nehek, I wish they had worked on turn 3! It might not have changed the overall outcome of the game, but atleast it would have lasted a turn longer. But! It was not to be!
I hope you enjoyed this battle report! Thanks for looking! ;Y;Y:rofl
Oops! No, of course I wasn't playing against myself! I forgot to mention that my friend was writing down his army list, turns and conclusion.Everything was within 12" of the GeneralAlso, how can the V.C infantry march 8"?
Oh, OK then. Great report.
Next time, could you make all that clear when you write the thread?
Which army were YOU, by the way?
It was a great battle report, I reckon the Vampire Counts guy should request a re-match though, as the Butcher isn't allowed to lead the army, you must have a Bruiser or Tyrant. That 1 less dispel die could have made a big difference to his magic phases.
Otherwise, good stuff. 8Y
while your praise is welcome i recommend you check the last post date on your theads before posting. this thread is close to 2 months old. thread necromancy is ill advised.
