For the 2nd year now I attended Sooiepalooza in Fayetteville, AR. It was a great tournament with many of the south's best players attending.
I chose to bring my VC "Cursed Army of Mousillon" since last year I was overwelmed by powerful armies that just steamrolled over my softer Empire.
Duke Mordrid's Cursed Army of Mousillon : By Aaron Chapman <-- Army list is here
The scenerios were interesting and in many cases capturing the scenerio objective was enough to win the game or at least turn a losing battle into a draw.
Max battle points per game was 17 with 85 max for the whole tournament.
Game #1 VS Wood Elves (Tree Spirit Army)
My opponent was very new to Warhammer and she was not very competative. The army was strong with 2 Treemen and 7 levels of magic, but her inexperience saw my Black Knights surge forwards unimpeaded for a quick win. Most of the game she hid her Treemen and wizards in a forest making it easy to kill everything else but the high points models.
Result: Win = 16 Battle Points
Game #2 VS Orcs & Goblins (Jack of All Trades Army)
My secondary Black Knight unit accepted a charge from both a Savage Orc on chariot plusa Black Orc on a Wrvern... and WON! Both characters fled and caused extra panic on th einfantry behind them. My Vampire's unit of Knights fought some Night Goblins and the BO-BSB's unit of Orcs destroying both easily. Then after taking excessive casualties from an enfilading bolt thrower shot the Vampire killin gBlowed the Black Orc general and secured victory.
Result: Win = 16 Battle Points
Game #3 VS Dwarfs (Tough Stubborn Infantry & Decent Shooting Army)
The scenerio gave us a max of about 6 hours to ceomplete the game and unlimited turns. Each side had 9 tokens distributed among characters and units and once a unit was completely destroyed or fled off the battlefield the opponent got the token it was carrying. Once one player collected 5 tokens and had at least 2 more than his opponent the game was immediately over and a full victory for the one who completed the objective. Games where both sides collect 8 tokens or neither completes the objective within 6 hours were draws (of course no game was a draw with so much time to play... though some lasted the full 6 hours!)
My tokens were nearly all within the general's unit and the support knights and spirit hosts... the Dwarfs did the same using his hammerers with lord joined on shieldbearers and a bsb to hold most of his tokens.
I charged in quickly taking few missile casualties before entering combat. I quickly secured 2 tokens by slaying both a unit of 20 warriors and a unit of 5 slayers by the end of turn 2. My opponent got a lucky shot with a bolt thrower into my necromancer's bodyguard of wolves and killed them all gaining him a token.
My spirit Hosts held up another unit of Warriors and a flanking unit of Thunderers for several turns, but eventually the Spirits were crumbled from CR losses and we were tied again on tokens gathered.
All focus was now on the center of the board as my Black Knights surrounded his General's Bodyguard unit and his Warriors and other support infantry all surrounded my Knights! After something like 30+ rounds of combat I finally killed the BSB and the last Hammerer and also killed many of the Dwarfs who came to their General's rescue. I won combat by a small margin and brok his general, but no other units. I now had 4 tokens to his 2.
Finally my secondary Black Knights defeated a unit of Lonbeards who carried a token and ran them down in the pursuit gaining me the 5th token after something like 15 or more full game turns!
It was extrely difficult to accomplish and was only possible due to the long game length; it it hadn't been so long, the game was certainly going to be a draw after only 6 turns.
Result: Win = 15 Battle Points
Game #4 VS Nurgle Daemon Legion (DP, 2x Riders, 3x Infantry)
This scenerio was "The Wall," a 6" long section of wall was located in the center of the board styretching from left to right. At the end of each Player Turn any player who had at least 1 model touching the wall gained 60 Victory Points. Over the course of a game each player could gain up to 12 x 60 VP's equal to 720 VP's! More than enough to swing the game in the controlling player's favor.
My Vampire's Black Knights marched up top the wall and magical moved ontop of it completely blocking the enemy from gaining access to it. The Spirit hosts and support Black Knights covered the General's flanks and all the light cavalry and ghouls and fell bats hurried to the far flanks to slow the enemy with diversions and mach blocking! It worked and my General's unit was only engaged to the front where it easily continued to win combats over several rounds and eventually with the use of flanking wolves and rear-charging zombies I managed to cause a LD 2 instadility for the General and a unit of Plaguebearers in combat with my General... and the enemy "popped!"
Then it was just a matter of cleanup as I had now lost over 700 points of support units to hold the wasll for 9 player turns and with another flank charge I managed to kill a second Plaguebearer unit and a unit of Plague Riders... gaining me enough VP's for an clear victory.
The opponent was the same I had played a pick-up game with 2 days before and lucky for me i learned a whloe lot from losing to him that Friday, so that I wouldn't make th esame mistakes in the tournament.
Result: Win = 15 Battle Points
Game #5 VS Ogre Kingdoms (Tyrant+Tenderiser & 3 Butchers+Bangstick)
Having fought Ogres many times I was not suprised by his selection, I just knew I had to stop his general's unit from becoming stubborn and the game was going to be over quick. We both setup diversion / charge positions, but I managed to make a duel-charge using the support Black Knights & both of his Bull units fled and one was run down causing a panic that was failed by a Butcher and his unit of IG's. The battle line was broken up sufficiently now and I now placed my traps. Dire Wolves moved to cover the exposed flank of my support Knights that were now in the direct charge path of the large 12-strong unit that supported the Tyrant!
The tyrant took the bait on turn 2 and charged the wolves and overran into the Knights' flank. I then returned the favor by charging my vampire's Knights into his Tyrant's flank and the resulting combat went as such:
Vampire vs Tyrant challenge = 3 wounds on Tyrant
BSB vs Butcher = 2 wounds on Butcher
Vampire's unit of Knights cause 5 wounds on unit of Bulls (Tyrant bodyguard)
Bulls kill 2 Black Knights from the support unit.
CR results were 15 to 3 = -12 LD for Ogres!
The Ogres broke from combat and were run down, no supprt was available to correct this massive loss of Ogres and the game was ended at the top of turn 3!
Result: Win = 17 Battle Points
So with 5 wins and some good soft scores I finally won 1st place Overall for the first time.
And it was a good thing too since my Vampires are about to be completely re-done now that the new book is changing them drastically.
It was a wonderful tournament with all very good sports for opponents.
First off Congratulations on 1st! Cool list as well. Nice to see a fellow vampire to well.
Sounds like a good time and me personally perfer scenarios like this. Adds to the fun. Also, well written and interesting read. Pictures are always a good touch...and are those daemons unpainted?

Nice report Aaron, good job on the overall. I would like to play in those GTs down South one day because you guys look like great players. I might be able to make Hillbilly.
2009 Tourny records (W-L-D) (20-4-4):
9/56, 1/12, 2/14, 4/14, 32/82, 1/6, 16/72
I might try to make the Hillbilly, too. It's in my homestate, though 3.5 hours from home, and my wife has friends there.
Well done, Aaron. Are you bringing the Duke to Lonewolf?
