I haven't posted a battle report for a long time, so those of you who remember my last diasterous attempts, please don't tell anyone else.
I am in a tournament-a sort of league table- with 5 other players, one each for Empire, Hordes of Chaos, Orcs and Goblins, High Elves and, of course, Dwarves. The lists are 1500ps, and the top four at the end of the table (once everyone has played everyone else) go into a 2000pt semi-final, then a final.
My first and only match to date was against the Dwarf army. I thought it would be an easy win, because not only had he only played about 5 matches, his points were compressed into only three or four units. I can't print his lists as a rule of the tournament is we're not allowed to look at the opponents' lists, but here is (roughly) what he had:
Champion of some discription, with magical equipment that gave him a 1+ save and a sword with no armour saves.
12 Dwarf Warriors
Engineer with that stupid rune that entrenches the
Cannon he was assigned to.
Lifetaker, blood armour, heavy armour, sea dragon cloak, additional hand weapon.
Blade of ruin
12 Witch Elves
Banner of Murder
He won the roll to start, and he chose not to deploy the minerss underground.
The Dwarf Warriors, with the Champion in their unit, moved forward at the very slow shuffle that is a Dwarfs' top speed, adjacent to the Miners. Behind them, the Slayer was taking cover. The Cannon fired, and scored a hit on a unit of Crossbowmen, killing 8, including the Lordling. The Dwarf Champion, it seemed, had a handgun, and somehow managed to kill my Scorceress, whom I had stupidly left out in the open. My revenge at this time was weak. My units all moved forward at a steady pace that made Dwarves cry, and opened fire that killed about three Miners. That was it.
The Warriors ran forward at a snails' pace, and threw their axes at the Hydra, wounding it once. The Handgun fired again, this time hurting nobody, and the remaining Miners threw their explosive charges, killing a warrior in the spears regiment. The Cannon hit the other crossbow unit, killing seven this time.
I was really not in the greatest position, so my remaining Crossbowmen didn't move and shot the remaining miners-save one (Damn!) Elswhere, the Hydra and Spearmen charged the Warriors, who suffered no casualties and killed eight Spearmen. The Executioners, protecting the Witch Elves, move towards the cannon. Inside the Executioner unit, the Noble raised her crossbow and managed to kill two Cannon crewmembers-not that it gave me any points. The Hydra and its' apprentices did a hell of a lot of damage, killing all the Warriors. But the Champion held on grimly, and killed an apprentice, reducing the hydra to one wound in the process. The monster fled, and the Dwarves' stumpy little legs just could not compete.
While my trops were calling the RSPCA, the Cannon smashed the Executioners down-all of them. (Rrrgh!) The miner ran into a crossbow unit, did nothing, and was finally cut down. The slayer moved closer to the Elves, but the naked stunty was not fast enough. The Thunderers opened fire, and brought down the Chariot.
The witch elves attacked the Champion, and in killing him ,finally gave the Druchii a glimmer of hope. A crossbow unit shot the slayer, and the body would rot their till the end of time, because no-one really wanted to touch it. The Hydra rallied, and attacked the Thunderers ,killing a lot-seven ,I think. The Nobles'crossbow saw to it the Engineer was the only one guarding the cannon.
The Thunderers tried to kill the Hydra, but the Hydra survived and trampled the gunners to death. The Cannon fired, taking a wound off the noble. And owing to lack of troops, that was it.
My troops closed in on the cannon. My remaining crossbowmen could not harm the engineer, but my Noble took a wound off him.
The Cannon killed the Noble.
My Witch Elves and Hydra ploughed into the Cannon, and a poisoned blade killed the engineer.
Result: DRAW, Dark Elves 38 victory points higher than the Dwarves.
I hope you enjoyed the battle report, because otherwise you will have wasted a lot of time reading it.

Nice report, well written and fun to read. Keep it up!
How was the cannon doing so much damage? If your units were 5 by 2, and he was shooting you in the front arc, the most he can kill is two, no matter how many the line actualy goes through.
Otherwise nice game. I find dwarves a tough opponent myself. So many guns, then once you get there they sure arn't slouches in close combat!
Thank you for your comments. The guy had some stupid runes that made his cannon really awesome.
That dwarf list is basically the contents from the BFSP boxed set and if that is the case then there is almost no way that it could come out to 1500 pts... He should have easily twice that at that point level.
IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT!
