Just had a battle today and would like to share! I'd love to put more pics in, maybe next time as I'm learneing the ropes (NEVER save in JPEG until you want to upload...paint doesn't like it!)
Anyway, we'll start with the lists. I was using Hordes, which I took all the Beastmen and Daemons out, pending the new Hordes update:
L+H - Chaos Lord with Chaos Dragon mount
Mark of Khorne, Gaze of the Gods, Sword of Might
C - 15x Chaos Warriors
C - 18x Marauders
F/C, Flail, Shield
C - 5x Chosen Chaos Knights
C - 5x Chaos Knights
C - 6x Chaos Hounds
C - Chariot of Chaos
C - 5x Marauder Cavalry
Muso, Flail, Shield, Throwing Axe
R - 2x Spawn
The High Elves looked something like this:
L+H - Prince riding Star Dragon
Armour of Caledor, Blade of Leaping Gold (+3 attacks), Talisman of Loec
H - Noble
Barded steed, Great weapon, shield
H - Noble BSB
Barded steed, Great wepon, Shield
C - 16x Spear elves
C - 20x Archers
S - 16x Phoenix Guard
F/C, Lion Standard
S - 5x Dragon Princes
F/C, Banner of Eleryion
R - Bolt thrower
R - Bolt thrower
Righy O. Table top and deployed armies looked something like this below. His BSB and Noble joined the units they are right next to:
No mages on the field, so off to first turn, won by the High Elves:
Movement saw the Phoenix Guard and Spearelves go full steam ahead. Dragon Princes moved forward, trying to stay out of charge range though, and the Star Dragon flew up next to the forest in front of it, getting a nice look at most of my army, his sights set on the Chosen Knights!
Shooting aimed at the Knights with both Bolties causes of 2 wounds using multi shot, both saved by armour. 3 Marauders die from bowfire.
The Spawn both rolled 8. moving toward the Phoenix Guard, and the Warriors stayed next to them. Marauders and Chariot also move up alongside them. Marauder Cav get up in the face of the Princes, ready to give them axes of doom! Knights Move slightly ready to counter charge. Hounds press right up against the forest the make way for the Chosen Knights, who now have a good look at the Spear elves. Chaos Dragon flies up infront of the forest, seeking out Bowmen, Bolties and Phoenix Guard...
Throwing axes kill nothing! Dang
The Elves decalre charges with the Star Dragon against Chosen, Phoenix Guard against Warriors, the Princes against the Marauder Cav and Spearelves again Marauders. Only the Dragon makes it to combat, the Marauder Cav fleeing outside of charge range, the others just out of range, so failed charges.
Bolt throwers let loose againt the Chariot, causing 2 wounds. Bowmen fire against the nearby Chaos Dragon, causing 1 wound on both the Dragon and Rider!
Combat ensures the Chosen are squashed with 4 dead, the remaining 1 over run, Star Dragon moving 10 inches forward near the Chaos table edge. However, the Talisman is activated to do this, causing 1 wound to the Prince on top. Houds fail a panic check from this, and run into the Princes, destroying themselves.
Start of the Chaos Turn and the Marauders fail their terror test, running in front of the Chariot, as the Star Dragon was positioned slightly behind them - not enough to prevent a charge though! Charges are declared by both Spawn and the warriors againt the Phoenix Guard, Chaos Dragon against the Archers, Chariot against Spearelves and Knights against Dragon princes. Everything hold bar the Princes, who get just outside of charge range and the Bowmen who fail their terror check, fleeing just beyond charge range. A failed charge bring the Chaos Dragon within an inch of each bolt thrower.
Marauders Cav rally and gallop upto the Star Dragon, letting loose with some axes! 2 manage to hit the Prince, only 1 wounding. Saved by his armour though.
Combat with the Phoenix guard saw 6 die, with 1 Warrior also dead. Phoenix Guard lose but hold. Chariot kill 7 Spearelevs, winning by 3 but they also hold!
No chargers this turn from the Elves, the Archers and Princes managing to rally. Terror tests for both blt throwers, and the left one fails, running 4 inches away from the nearby Chaos Dragon. The Star Dragon turns around, sitting in the Chaos deployment zone now, looking at the rear of everything!
Comat in the Elf turn results in the Phoenix Guard breaking and being chased down after the Spawn rolled 11 attacks all up, so plenty more dead elves, two Warriors also drop though. All three unit pursue, around 7-9 inches all together, nothing amazing, The Chariot is then broken, with no aid from impact hits, but out runs the Speareleves, who are now sitting right next to the Maruaders.
Chaos Knights declare another charge on the Princes, who flee again, this time well away. Chaos Dragon declares a charge against the Archers, who manage to hold. Marauders rally, and face the right flank of the spearelves. Marauder Cav come over to face the other flank of the Spearelf unit. Chariot also rallies, now facing the front of the Spearelves.
Archers lose combat, are broken and the Chaos Dragon pursues off the field, just behind the Princes.
The rest is easy enough to sum up. The Spawn continue their way down the battle field, each one chosing a Bolt Thrower, which they smash once they get there, while the 10 remaining Warriors turn to face the Star Dragon, who kills 9 Marauders with it's breath weapon. The HE Noble charges out of the Spearelf unit into the Chariot in desparation, but is slaughtered by the steeds and crew alone, and the Spearelves, surrounded by 3 sides, are eaten.
The Princes and the Knights do nothing else this game either, the Princes failing a charge by about 3mm on the Chaos Dragon, who re-enters the board and fly's into position alongside the Warriors,
The Star Dragon then declares against the Chaos Dragon for the ultimate showdown. Chaos wins the first round of combat, with 4 wounds dealt to the Star Dragon, verses 1 to the Chaos Lord, but they hold. In the final turn of the game, the Chaos Warriors charge the flank of the Star Dragon, the Chaos Lord issuing a challenge to keep them safe, generating 3 bonus combat res. In the end, the Chaos Lord falls to the Prince with his last wound - my mistake was attacking the Star Dragon so often, being so hard to wound in the first place.
All that said, it was a comfortable win to Chaos, difference in scores being about 1070 victory points - a solid victory. That Star Dragon sure is a tough customer, and dishes out pain at the same time! Something to watch out for sure. Warriors with Chaos Spawn support also worked extremely well, I don't think the Warriors Would have won so easily against the Phoenix Guard without them, since the PG had character support as well.

~A splendid battle report. First of all, I'd like to curse you for beating high elves, but what are you gonna do? I really liked the stage set up at the beginning of the game, it really gave me an idea of what was going on.
~Keep it up, it looks stupendous!

~I wouldn't have it any other way. I only use the old paint as well. It's less confusing...
Wow. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for beating the snot out of some High Elves. It's nice to see that someone can win against them. I seem to not be able to. >< Great report! I had a great time reading it
No, I don't have any wool.
Sounds like Caledor II was at the head of that army! 3 failed charges in a turn? That's going to hurt anyone any day!
