His army off the top of my head
Butcher with 3 thiefstones
butcher with 2 scrolls
7 or 8 ironguts Had a banner that redirects a spell on a 2+ AND any magic cast at the unit miscasts and double 1,2,3
2 leadbelchers x 2
1 maneater with brace of handguns
Spells: Nurgle mage got 1 and 5, DP got 1,2,3,4
His setup from my left to right
belchers(LB1) - Maneater(ME) - Bulls(B1) w/ Butcher - Ironguts(IG) w/ BSB and tyrant - Bulls(B2) w/ butcher - Belchers (LB2)
My set up from left to right
Khorne horse(KH1) - DP - BSB - Knights(CK1) w/dogs infront - DOs w/ naked horsemen(h1) in front - knights(CK2) w/ dogs in front - chariot - khorne horse(KH2)
I won to go first and let him go.
He moves everything up some and his flanking belchers move within range of my KH1 and KH2 on each side so they'll have to charge. Magic sees nothing
I have to charge with both my KH, he kills 4 out of 5 with both stand and shoots on both sides. 10 hits for 1 and 18 for the other and he put 1 wound on his LB2.
I move my dogs forward and tilt them so if he charges and overuns he'll be showing his flanks to my knights. I angle my knights and DO to set up flank charges if he does overrun my dogs. My BSB and DP fly behind his line.
My magic pretty much flopped. He scrolled 1 big spell and ate up the rest.
Blood curdel roar puts 2 wounds on Bulls1.
KH2 kills 1 belcher, but dies in return and KH1 just dies. Not exactly what I thought they should do, but he shot good. Looking at averages he should have had 10 shots from both units hitting on 5s, so 3.3 hit and wounding on 3s so 2 wound. Basically meaning on both flanks he got twice as lucky as the odds.
His B1 charge my dogs, his man eater turns around so he can shoot at my DP and his tyrant jumps out of his unit so he can shoot at my lord.
His maneater puts 1 wound on my lord and his tyrant whiffs. Combat sees him killing 4 of my 5 dogs1 and him trying to hold but fails his leadership and overruns.
His magic does nothing. He shoots again with maneater and tyrant at my DP, but this time doesn't nothing.
I charge my CK1 into the nice flank of his B1 that has a butcher just sitting on its end.
I move my chariot around his far right bulls unit.
Magic sees me rolling double 1s for tzeentch #4, I reroll one of the dice and end up casting double 3s, which is a miscast against his big ironguts. He gets a spell to go off for free and I use 2 power dice to stop bonecruncher. Nurgle sorcerer just gets dispelled.
Forgot about roar here when I moved my DP so I had no targets in range.
I only wound the butcher twice with 3 knights attacking it. So sad, hitting on 3s and wounding on 3s and he has no save and I only manage 2 wounds. My other 2 knights do enough wounds to prevent any attack backs and he breaks from combat and gets chased down. 1 butcher down.
His belchers now reloaded turn and fire on my CK1 that just killed his butcher, but I'm in the trees and nurgle. He rolls a 2 and a misfire, doing 2 wounds to himself and none to the CKs. He moves the rest of his army around alittle, but his still refuses to charge the dogs sitting in front of his ironguts.
His magic, now hurt, gets a +1 stubborn off on his ironguts.
My chariot charges the rear of his B2 with butcher and my CK2 charge the front of the unit. My horsemen who started in the middle of my army worked their way to the left and now can charge the belchers(LB1), but fail their fear check, so they just sit there. My DP and BSB fly over to the Ck2/chariot fight just to be on the safe side and to get away from his shooting. I reform my CK1 in the woods to face the center of the board.
My magic starts to come alive. I cast tzeentch #4 on a 20 against his big irongut unit. Its the spell where all models in a unit attack itself. Well he only has 3 dispel dice now, but he redirects the spell into his engaged bulls(b2) unit that has a butcher with MR3 on him. Luckily for me, his 5 dice he ends up throwing come short. His bulls have ironfists, so I get something like 21 attacks against himself and end up doing 6 wounds. Not bad of a spell. I also get buboes off on his tyrant knocking a wound off of him.
Combat sees me killing his butcher and every single bull left before my chariot's crew even attacked. I overrun toward the top right corner. My Ck2 run into his LB2 that has 1 model left and next turn I kill them all and hold.
He now charges his ironguts into my dogs. He kills all 5 of them and overruns into my BSB... Slightly bad placement by my part. I flee from that charge and fly 13 inches, which puts me 1/4" from the table edge. Talk about getting lucky.
His far left belchers(LB1) charge my naked horsemen and cream them and overrun off the table Not to be heard from again except to take that quarter.
My CK1 in the woods charge his tyrant and make it to him by 1.5"s. I put 2 wounds on him and he flops his attacks back missing with 4 out of the 5, but the 5th hit kills a knight, he has a rerollable break test and makes his second roll.
I decide to not charge his big irongut unit with my DOs. I rallied with my BSB and was able to sidestep my DOs to be within 6"s of the BSB, so when he charges them if I can keep 1 guy alive he'll be stubborn rerollable 8s for his break test. I manuever my CK2 to be able to rear charge the ironguts next turn.
#4 tzeentch spell goes off again on his big irongut unit, but this time he has no other unit to redirect it into, so I do like 25+ attacks against his own unit probably doing 6 wounds. We messed up here, I tried to dispel his +1 toughness on this unit and rolled double 1s and it wasn't until next turn that I realized his buff should have been gone since I killed his butcher. So the spell should have done more damage, str6 v t4 instead of t5. I also didn't roar at the unit because t5 is too tough for str1 to wound. Oh well. I try to get nurgle #5 spell off and fail.
His ironguts charge my DOs and they hold and he charges his man eater into the flank of my CK1 that are attacking his lord. His maneater kills 1 knight, but my knights kill his tyrant. Chalk up another lord my chaos knights have killed. These guys are just too good. I won combat, but he's stubborn and holds, so I make a sideturn to be facing his maneater now.
He does some wounds to my DOs and I thnk I do a wound or 2 back. He wins combat and I get rerollable 8s to hold and I hold.
I charge my knights into the rear of his ironguts. My other knights increase rank to have all 3 be able to attack him and they kill him before he can attack back. These knights on turn 6 just move to take the top left quarter.
I have no targets really for magic, which is fine, because my nurgle mage tried nurgle #5 the -1str/t spell and miscast and ended my magic phase before my DP even could cast. Only thing he could cast would have been pandemonium, which he had no mages left, nor a tyrant, so it wouldn't be worthwhile.
My CK2 in the read of his ironguts flop hard and do 1 wound only and the horses do another wound. He takes my DOs down to 2 models w/ one only having 1 wound left. He also turns around and kills enough knights to leave me with only 2 left so I lose my rear. He actually wins combat, but my BSb is within 6"s of both units so they both hold.
I can't believe that Ck to the rear and DO to the front and I still lost combat.
His only unit left besides the belchers in the corner is his ironguts. He takes my Dos down to 1 model with 2 wounds left and I take his unit down to the BSB/champion/2guts. We tied in combat rez, but I don't have a musician since this knights have the rapturous standard, so I love combat, but hold again with rerollable 8s. I tell you that Banner of the Gods is worth every point.
I go balls to the wall to break his last unit and charge my BSB, sorcerer and DP into them. He challenges me and not wanting to lose my BSB or let him half my DP, I accept his challenge with my sorcerer. Yes my sorcerer is now in a challenge with a ogre bruiser/BSB. I attack and do nothing to him and he turns around and puts 1 wound on my sorcerer. Turns out to be the right move, halving 205 points isn't as bad as my 300 point BSB or 555 point DP.
Between my BSB/DP/2 knights/1 DO I kill off the rest of his unit just leaving his BSB. He needs snakeyes, but he cal reroll it. He desn't, he flees and I chase him down to get 2 banners.
We didn't count up the points, but he had about 110 points in belchers left and a quarter. I had lost 2 dogs(60pts), all my marauader horsemen(275 maybe), half my knights(135 or so), half my DO(100s) and half my sorcerer(about 100 points). I also killed his general, bot a quarter and 3 standards. Probably about 2000 point massacre.
I'm really starting to get the hang of this list. Slowly learning its strengths and how to avoid its weaknesses. I really need to be more careful about putting my DP into range of shooting. Also shows magic can still be devastating even without gateway.
Congratulations on the win.
How are you finding your Dragon Ogres so far?
I haven't been able to try them out for myself yet, so I'd be interested to hear your opinions on them.
Everything is better with smut
I've used them I think 4 times now.
My first game I bait and fled with my warhounds that causes a panic in my Dragon Ogres(DOs). I failed both panic checks and ran 16 inches off of the board. That was turn 2, so they did nothing. I think its like 8% chance to fail to leadership checks at an 8. So I didn't hold it against them and I still won the game, so it was fine.
Game two, I was determined to try them out before someone unlucky could happen. My turn 2 I charged them into 9 lizardmen coldone riders with a BSB. So he was already up in combat res by 4 or 5. In conjunction with my flying BSB with banner of the gods(Man do I love that guy), they were able to hold that unit until I could get a rear charge in. I even accidently played them with only 3 wounds a piece. They died to the man, but for holding 500 points of coldones in place while I could deal with the rest of his army and get a rear charge in, well that was priceless.
Game three, they were alittle more silent this game. A unit of warhounds got beat in combat(big surprise?) which casued 15 saurus warriors and an oldblood to charge into both my DOs and a unit of knights. Again, with the help of my flying BSB with the banner of the gods(did I mention I love that guy?) they were able to hold with the knights for a few rounds of combat and ended up actually breaking them. They didn't really do much but absorb some damage.
Game four, this game I reported on. They were able to get into position to take a charge from 7 ironguts and a bruider/bsb. Once again, thanks to my flying BSB with banner of the gods (we seeing a trend here? The synergy between these guys is just wrong) they were able to hold against the charge. Next turn I rear charged and flopped my attacks with my knights and lost (won't see that too often), but the BSB keeps everyone in combat. After another few rounds I had 2 wounds left on 1 model, but they did their job. They let the biggest nastiest unit on the board charge them to the front and lived to tell about it, while that big nasty unit didn't.
Sounding fair solid with the BSB backup.
Wondering how I could fit one in my 2k Slaaneshi list....
Yay more stuff to playtest if I ever get the time
Thanks for the info. *Rep added*

Nice write up. Keep us posted on your next battle!
Congrats on the win, I'd really like to see this army fight a shooting heavy army to see how it fairs. With the new change to MoN do you plan on continuing with those knights? or swapping them for another mark?
2010 WoC Cav W/L/D - 7/3/1
good game. couple things I wanted to pointout though. On turn 3 when you had the bulls attack themself with the treason spell you said that they made over 20 attacks. Same happened in turn4 with the ironguts. Spell says "All models in the unit immediately make ONE attack agains the unit itself" quote from the spell. I made the same mestake first couple games that I ran with my lvl 4 sorc. Still a great spell though. Have gotten a good laugh out of watching sword master smack themself in the head and then panic.
I just noticed,
"His bulls have ironfists, so I get something like 21 attacks against himself"
This was done wrong and probably turned it in your favor by quite a large amount.
The spell says one attack per model against the unit itself, this isn't modefied by items carried by that unit, it's just one attack per model with a weapon of your choice, so really, it would have been 5 or 6 attacks, not 21.
Chaos Warriors (2009) 16-4-9
Already pointed out, but thanks. I think the first time I got the spell off it wouldn't have mattered. I had the bulls surrounded so bad in that next combat phase there would have been a massacre.
As far as the ironguts go. It might have helped. Probably could have still killed a model, specially since he used +1 toughness even though the butcher was killed earlier. So the question is would another irongut have made that big of a difference? He still would have broken from combat and I did more wounds to the ironguts in the last round then there was wounds available. Even 1 more guy hitting my knights in the rear, 3 attacks hitting on 5s, he has the chance to do less than 1 wound with that guy.
It sucks I played it wrong, but I really don't think it would have mattered.
Nice report and gratz on the win, but i'm a bit lost about the parts where you mention that he redirects your spells on another unit. That an OK thing? cause i my knowledge you're opponent can't redirect a spell onto another unit. So quite lost there :s
